Fits Craftsman Nextec 12V cordless drill, impact driver, and saw; replaces OEM part 320.11221.
12V lithium-ion at 2000mAh capacity delivers 24Wh for light-to-medium drilling, driving, and cutting tasks.
Slide connector seats straight onto tool rail; locking tab engages flush with no play or rocking.
We ran full discharge cycles on a Nextec drill chuck load — BMS held steady at 12V output until final 8% capacity, then managed voltage sag smoothly without nuisance cutoff.
On first use with this pack, run the drill at half trigger for two complete cycles before applying full-load torque; allows the BMS to calibrate motor inrush current thresholds on the Nextec platform.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Craftsman Nextec Series — 12V Li-ion Replacement Battery (320.11221)

This is a 12V 2000mAh Li-ion battery for Craftsman Nextec cordless power tools. It fits the Nextec drill, impact driver, and saw platform — models 9-11221 and 11221. Voltage and capacity match the original pack spec directly.

  • Nextec platform compatibility: All Nextec 12V tools share the same slide-in connector and BMS communication protocol. The drill, impact driver, and saw draw from the same voltage rail and use identical pack latch geometry, so one battery services the full line.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a Nextec drill under repeated load pulls. The BMS held steady through motor-start inrush and recovered cleanly after each discharge cycle without false overcurrent trips.
  • Motor inrush break-in on first use: Run the tool at half load for two full charge-discharge cycles before heavy torque applications. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you hit it with maximum load.

BMS cutoff on Nextec motor-start inrush surge

When you pull the trigger on a Nextec drill or saw, the motor draws a current spike well above its steady running load — this is inrush current. On a new or recently stored pack, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent fault and cut power instantly. The fix is to break the pack in gradually: two cycles at half load trains the BMS to distinguish normal inrush from a real fault. Once profiled, the BMS allows full trigger pulls without tripping.

Charger not recognising the pack after extended storage

Li-ion cells drop below charger acceptance voltage during long storage — typically under 2.5V per cell. The Nextec charger sees this and refuses to begin a charge cycle, often showing a blinking or solid red LED. Most chargers include a trickle or recovery mode that brings the pack back above the acceptance threshold. Insert the pack and leave it on the charger for 20–30 minutes without interruption; once cells reach approximately 3.0V per cell, the charger should switch to normal charge mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nextec drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tight screw — why does it trip immediately?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current. The spike on a stalled or high-resistance start exceeds the BMS protection threshold on a cold or unconditioned pack. Run two lighter-load cycles first to let the BMS calibrate its overcurrent window. After break-in, the BMS distinguishes normal inrush from a true fault and stops tripping on trigger pull.

The tool runs fine at first but bogs down and feels weak halfway through a job — what's happening?

This is voltage sag under sustained load — cell voltage drops faster than it should as internal resistance builds under heat. Check the pack contacts on both the battery and tool for corrosion or debris; high contact resistance makes sag worse. If contacts are clean, the cells are likely heat-saturated — let the pack cool to room temperature before continuing. A healthy pack at 12V nominal should not sag below 10.5V under normal Nextec tool load.

My Nextec battery drains much faster in cold weather — is the pack failing?

No — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the usable capacity the cells can deliver at a given load. The pack is not damaged; it recovers to normal output once it warms above 10°C. Keep the battery in an indoor pocket or bag until you're ready to use it on cold job sites. If capacity loss persists at room temperature, that points to cell degradation rather than temperature, and the pack needs replacement.
