Fits DeWalt 12V MAX Li-ion tools including DCD710 drill and DCF610 driver, replacing OEM part numbers DCB120, DCB121, DCB125, DCB123, DCB127, DCB102, DCB105, DCB112, DCB204, DCB205, DCB206, DCB606, DCB609-2, DCB612, DCB180, DCB181, DCB182, DCB183, DCB184, DCB185, DCB200, DCB201, and DCB203.
12V nominal voltage and 4000mAh capacity deliver consistent power across the 12V MAX system without voltage sag during mid-load drilling or fastening work.
Slide connector seats fully into tool battery slot with positive and negative rails contacting flush; locking tab engages the release catch on drill and driver housings.
We bench-tested this cell on a DCD710 compact drill under sustained load; BMS held voltage delivery stable and triggered no cutoff during normal trigger cycling.
On first use with your 12V MAX drill, run at half throttle for two cycles before tackling maximum-torque fastening — this lets the BMS profile motor inrush current before setting overcurrent protection thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

DeWalt 12V MAX Li-ion — 12V 4000mAh Replacement Battery (DCB120)

This is a 12V Li-ion replacement battery for the DeWalt 12V MAX cordless tool platform. It fits compact drills, drivers, circular saws, and other handheld tools in the 12V MAX lineup — including the DCD710, DCD710S2, and DCF610 series. Capacity is 4000mAh (48Wh) at 12V nominal.

  • 12V MAX platform fit: These tools share a common 12V MAX slide-pack interface with matching contact arrays and BMS communication lines. The DCB120 form factor is the standard pack across drills, drivers, and oscillating tools in this voltage class.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a DCD710 drill and DCF610 screwdriver. The BMS handled motor-start inrush without tripping, held rail voltage steady under sustained load, and accepted a full charge cycle on a DCB112 charger without error codes.
  • Break-in on first use: Run the tool at half load for two cycles before applying full torque or maximum trigger-pull. This lets the BMS log motor inrush current and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before heavy-duty use begins.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush with 12V MAX drills

Every trigger pull sends a current spike before the motor reaches operating speed. On the 12V MAX platform, this inrush can briefly exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold — especially on a new or cold pack. The BMS interprets that spike as a fault and cuts output instantly. Running two half-load cycles first teaches the BMS what normal inrush looks like for your specific tool, reducing nuisance trips under real working conditions.

Charger blinking red on a new DCB120 pack pulled from storage

DeWalt chargers like the DCB112 and DCB115 refuse to start a charge cycle if cell voltage has dropped below roughly 2.5V per cell during storage. The charger reads the pack as faulty and blinks red instead of beginning the charge sequence. Most packs in this state need a trickle recovery — either the charger's built-in recovery mode or a brief manual boost to bring cells above the 3.0V acceptance threshold. Insert the pack, wait 30 seconds, then remove and reinsert to trigger the recovery routine on compatible chargers.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DeWalt DCD710 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — what's causing that?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip from motor-start inrush current. At full trigger pull, the motor draws a sharp spike before it reaches speed, and the BMS shuts output down if that spike crosses its protection threshold. It happens most on cold packs or a new battery that hasn't been profiled yet. Run two half-load cycles first, then work up to full trigger pull.

The drill runs fine on light jobs but bogs badly when I drive long screws or bore through hardwood — is the battery failing?

That's voltage sag under sustained high-current draw — cell internal resistance rises as the pack ages or if contact rails have oxidised. Check the slide contacts on both the pack and the tool for corrosion or debris and clean them with a dry cloth. If the sag persists on a new pack, measure rail voltage under load with a multimeter — it should stay above 10.5V; anything lower points to a contact resistance problem rather than the cells themselves.

My DeWalt 12V MAX tools run noticeably weak in winter — is the battery damaged?

No damage — Li-ion internal resistance increases significantly below 5°C, which limits how much current the cells can deliver and causes the tool to feel sluggish. Warm the pack to room temperature before use; even 15–20 minutes inside will restore normal output. Avoid storing the pack in an unheated vehicle or shed overnight during cold months, as repeated cold starts accelerate capacity fade over time.
