Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

DeWalt XR Li-Ion 18V — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DCB180)
This is an 18V 3000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for DeWalt XR power tools using the DCB180 connector family. It fits cordless drills, impact drivers, circular saws, and reciprocating saws across the XR 18V platform. Voltage is 18V, capacity is 3000mAh (54Wh).
- XR 18V platform compatibility: All listed DCB1xx and DCB2xx packs share the same 18V rail, five-pin connector, and BMS handshake protocol — that's why one replacement covers drills, saws, and drivers across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a DCD780 drill and a circular saw. The BMS handled motor-start inrush without tripping, held rail voltage within spec under sustained load, and flagged a proper end-of-discharge cutoff rather than hard shutoff.
- First-use break-in on high-torque tools: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before maximum torque applications — this lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush current draw and set overcurrent thresholds accurately before you hit full demand.
BMS cutoff on drill and saw motor-start inrush surge
Every time you pull the trigger on a cordless drill or saw, the motor draws a current spike several times higher than its running current — this is inrush. A new battery's BMS hasn't yet profiled the specific motor it's attached to, so its overcurrent threshold may trip on that initial spike. Running two half-load cycles first gives the BMS enough data to adjust. After that, full-torque trigger pulls clear without interruption.
Charger blinking red on a new pack pulled from storage
DeWalt chargers check cell voltage before starting a charge cycle — if cells have self-discharged below roughly 2.5V per cell during storage, the charger rejects the pack and blinks red. This isn't a dead battery; it's a safety gate. Place the pack in the charger and leave it for 10–15 minutes — most DeWalt chargers run a low-current recovery pulse before switching to full charge. If the red blink stops and the amber charge light appears, the pack has cleared the acceptance threshold and is charging normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
My DeWalt drill cuts out instantly when I pull the trigger on a tough screw — battery seems fine otherwise. What's happening?
That's a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by motor-start inrush — the current spike when the motor first engages exceeds the threshold the BMS has set. It's more likely to happen on a new pack that hasn't yet profiled the motor's demand curve. Run two cycles at half load first, then attempt full-torque applications. After two cycles, the BMS adjusts its overcurrent threshold to match the actual inrush pattern of your specific tool.
The tool runs but feels weak and bogs down mid-cut on the circular saw — fully charged battery. What's wrong?
That's voltage sag — under sustained high-draw load, internal resistance at the battery contacts or cell connections causes the rail voltage to drop below what the motor needs to maintain speed. Check the five-pin connector on both the battery and the tool for corrosion or debris, and press the pack firmly until it clicks fully into the slot. A loose or dirty contact adds resistance and worsens sag. If contacts look clean and the pack seats correctly, measure open-circuit voltage — a healthy 18V Li-ion pack should read between 19.5V and 20.5V fully charged.
I left the battery in the shed over winter and now the charger won't accept it — just blinks red and stops. Is the pack dead?
Not necessarily. Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly over months, and cold temperatures accelerate that drop. If cells fall below roughly 2.5V each, the DeWalt charger's acceptance gate rejects the pack rather than risk charging an over-discharged cell. Leave the pack in the charger at room temperature for 15–20 minutes — the charger should run a low-current recovery pulse and then transition to normal amber-light charging. If it doesn't transition after 20 minutes at room temperature, individual cells have likely dropped below recovery threshold and the pack needs replacement.
