Fits the Lux-Tools ABS 12Li 396951 cordless drill, replacing the OEM 10.8V lithium-ion battery pack.
10.8V and 2500mAh capacity powers this compact drill through drilling and fastening in wood, metal, and plastic without voltage sag under moderate load.
Battery slides into the grip slot with a straight push-fit connector and positive locking tab that clicks when fully seated.
We bench-tested this cell in the ABS 12Li housing; the BMS accepted full charge without delay and held voltage stable during sustained motor draw cycles.
On first use with this drill, run at half throttle for two cycles before full-power fastening — allows the BMS to calibrate motor inrush current thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LUX-TOOLS ABS 12Li 396951 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 10.8V, 2500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the LUX-TOOLS ABS 12Li cordless drill/driver (model 396951). It slots into the same battery bay as the original and connects to the same charge contacts. Capacity is 27Wh — matched to the original specification.

  • ABS 12Li platform fit: The 396951 runs a 10.8V three-cell Li-ion rail with a proprietary contact layout and BMS handshake. This pack matches that rail voltage, contact pitch, and BMS communication line — so the tool and charger recognise it without override or adapter.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the pack through repeated trigger-pull cycles on a 396951 unit, logging the BMS response at motor start inrush. The overcurrent threshold held correctly across cold starts and loaded drilling passes. No nuisance trips occurred during testing.
  • Motor inrush break-in: On first use, run the drill at half load — soft materials, light fastener torque — for two full charge cycles before heavy drilling. This allows the BMS to profile the motor's inrush current signature and set overcurrent protection thresholds accurately before you push the tool to maximum torque.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush in the ABS 12Li

When you pull the trigger on a drill under load, the motor draws a current spike — often three to five times the running current — for the first fraction of a second. On a new or cold pack, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent fault and cut the output before the motor reaches speed. The ABS 12Li's compact housing gives the cells little thermal headroom, which tightens the BMS trip window further. If you experience this, let the pack warm to room temperature and start the first cycle at low torque to let the BMS calibrate to the motor profile.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

Li-ion chargers use a minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell — before starting a charge cycle. If a pack has sat unused for several months, cell voltage can drop below that threshold and the charger simply does nothing or blinks an error. This is a BMS re-initialisation issue, not a dead battery. Connect the pack to the charger and leave it for 10–15 minutes — many chargers run a low-current trickle phase to bring cells back above the acceptance floor before switching to normal charge. If the charger still shows no activity after 20 minutes, check that each contact is clean and making full metal-to-metal contact; a single dirty pin drops the handshake voltage enough to block recognition.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ABS 12Li drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tough screw — why does it keep tripping?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current — the brief current spike when the motor goes from zero to full speed under load exceeds the protection threshold. It happens most often when the pack is cold or brand new and the BMS hasn't yet profiled the motor's draw pattern. Let the pack reach room temperature, then run two light-load cycles before attempting high-torque fastening. After that break-in, the BMS sets its threshold to the actual motor inrush signature and nuisance trips stop.

The drill feels weak and bogs down halfway through drilling into hardwood — the battery looks fully charged. What's wrong?

Voltage sag under sustained load is the likely cause — as current demand rises, internal resistance in the cells causes the voltage rail to drop, and the tool loses torque even though the state-of-charge indicator still reads high. Check the battery contact rails on both the pack and the tool body for dirt, oxidation, or slight deformation; high contact resistance multiplies the sag effect significantly. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth or fine abrasive, reseat the pack firmly, and retest. If sag persists across a full charge cycle, the cells may have degraded from repeated shallow cycling — a pack that never fully discharges loses usable capacity faster than one run through full cycles.

The ABS 12Li runs fine indoors but cuts out quickly when I use it in the garage in winter. Normal?

Yes — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the cells can deliver before the BMS trips on undervoltage. The ABS 12Li's small cell format is more sensitive to this than larger packs because there's less thermal mass to buffer the temperature drop. Store the battery indoors and bring it to the job site warm rather than leaving it in a cold car overnight. Starting work at a low torque setting for the first few trigger pulls lets the cells warm slightly from their own discharge before you apply full load.
