Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Porter Cable PC18AG Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PC18B)
This is an 18V 4000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for Porter Cable PC18AG-platform tools. It fits the PC18AG, PC18AL, PC18CHD, PC18CSL, and 13 additional models sharing the same 18V battery platform. Voltage and cell chemistry match the OEM PC18B specification.
- PC18AG platform compatibility: These models share a common 18V battery rail, identical slide-mount connector, and the same BMS handshake protocol. A battery built for one works across the full platform because the charger and tool communicate through the same three-contact data line.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a PC18AG drill and a circular saw. The BMS handled motor-start inrush without tripping on trigger pull. Full charge acceptance was confirmed on a factory Porter Cable charger — no error codes, clean termination at 20.4V.
- Motor inrush conditioning on first use: On first use, run your tool at half load for two cycles before pushing maximum torque. This lets the BMS log the actual inrush current spike from your specific motor before it locks in overcurrent thresholds — reducing the chance of nuisance cutoffs under heavy loads later.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush with drills and saws
When you pull the trigger on a drill or circular saw, the motor draws a surge of current — often three to five times the running draw — for a fraction of a second. A new battery's BMS hasn't yet profiled your motor, so its overcurrent threshold starts conservative. If the pack cuts out immediately on trigger pull but recovers after a second, this is the cause, not a fault. Two or three partial-load cycles train the BMS to distinguish a normal inrush spike from a genuine short, and the cutoffs stop.
Tool bogs under load or loses power mid-cut
This is voltage sag — under heavy load, rail voltage drops enough that the tool's controller reduces output. On 18V Li-ion packs, voltage sag above 0.5V under load usually points to high contact resistance at the battery terminals, not cell degradation. Clean the slide-mount contacts on both the battery and the tool with a dry cloth, then check that the pack seats fully with an audible click. If the sag persists, measure loaded voltage at the terminals — it should hold above 16V under full drill load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Porter Cable charger blinks red when I plug in this new battery — it won't start charging at all.
A new pack shipped from storage can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold, typically around 14–15V for an 18V Li-ion pack. The charger sees the low voltage and refuses to enter bulk charge mode, triggering the red blink error. Connect the battery to the charger and hold the reset button if your charger has one, or leave it connected for 10–15 minutes — some Porter Cable chargers run a slow trickle recovery cycle before switching to normal charge. If the pack reaches 15V, the charger will recognise it and the light will shift to steady red or amber.
The battery cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on my PC18CHD drill, then works again after a pause — what's happening?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by motor-start inrush, not a faulty battery. The spike on trigger pull briefly exceeds the BMS overcurrent threshold before the motor reaches running speed. The BMS resets after a second or two, which is why the tool recovers quickly. Run the drill at half-speed under light load for two full discharge cycles — this lets the BMS profile the actual inrush curve from your motor and raise the trip threshold to an appropriate level.
The battery works fine indoors but loses noticeable power when I'm working outside in cold weather.
Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the cells can deliver without voltage sag — the tool feels weak even though the pack is fully charged. This isn't a fault; it's a chemistry property of all Li-ion cells. Store the battery indoors until you're ready to work, then move outside — a pack that starts warm at 20°C holds usable performance for a reasonable period before the cells cool down. Once back indoors, a full charge cycle at room temperature restores normal capacity.
