Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Porter Cable PC18CS Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PC18B)
This is an 18V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery pack built to fit the Porter Cable PC18CS reciprocating saw and related 18V platform tools including the PC1800RS, PC1800D, and PC1801D. It replaces OEM part numbers PC18B, PC18BL, PC18BLX, PC18BLEX, PCC489N, and PCXMVC. Voltage and connector format match the original pack exactly.
- PC18CS platform compatibility: All models in this group share the same 18V rail, slide-in connector, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between the reciprocating saw and drill bodies on this platform works without reconfiguration — the battery communicates identically across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the PC18CS trigger cycle, monitoring BMS response to motor-start inrush current. The protection circuit held within spec across repeated start cycles without nuisance tripping.
- First-cycle load break-in: On initial use, run the saw through light cuts — thin timber or conduit — for the first two charge cycles before pushing into heavy stock or nail-embedded wood. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush current draw before locking overcurrent thresholds.
BMS cutoff on PC18CS motor-start inrush surge
The PC18CS draws a sharp current spike the instant the trigger closes — well above the steady-state cutting draw. A new pack with uncalibrated BMS thresholds can interpret this spike as a fault and cut power before the blade moves. This is more common after storage, when cells have sat at a low state of charge and internal resistance is elevated. Running two light-load cycles first allows the BMS to distinguish normal inrush from a genuine overcurrent event. After that, full-load cuts should proceed without nuisance shutoffs.
Charger not recognising the pack after storage
Li-ion packs stored below roughly 2.5V per cell will fall outside the voltage window most chargers accept to begin a charge cycle. The charger blinks an error or does nothing — it is not a faulty charger or a dead pack. Some chargers have a recovery or "wake" mode that trickle-charges at low current until cells reach 3.0V per cell, at which point normal charging begins. If your charger lacks this mode, a compatible charger with a recovery function is the fix — look for one that accepts packs down to 1.0V per cell to initiate the cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PC18CS cuts out the moment I pull the trigger on hard stock — what's causing that?
That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty battery. The motor-start inrush on the PC18CS spikes well above steady cutting draw, and if the pack is new or recently off storage, the BMS can read that spike as a fault and shut down before the blade engages. Run the saw through two light-load cycles — thin timber or conduit — so the BMS can calibrate its overcurrent threshold to the motor's normal inrush signature. After that, the cutout on hard stock should stop.
The saw bogs down and loses power partway through a cut even though the battery shows charge — what's going on?
That's voltage sag, not a capacity issue. Under sustained load, internal resistance in the cells causes the voltage rail to drop, and the tool loses torque even though the pack isn't depleted. Check the slide-in contacts on both the battery and the tool for corrosion or debris — elevated contact resistance makes sag worse. If contacts are clean and sag still drops the rail below 15V under load, the cell stack itself has degraded and the pack needs replacing.
The battery worked fine all summer but now barely drives the saw in cold weather — is the pack failing?
It's not failing — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the pack can deliver and causes the tool to feel underpowered. Warm the pack to room temperature before use; 20–25°C is enough to bring resistance back into normal range. Avoid leaving the battery in a cold vehicle overnight before a job. If performance stays weak after the pack has been at room temperature for 30 minutes, check cell voltage at rest — a healthy 18V pack should read at least 19.5V fully charged.
