Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Wolf Garten GTA 700 / BA 700 Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (Li-ion Power Pack 5)
This 18V 2000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original Li-ion Power Pack 5 and Power Pack 6 units used in Wolf Garten cordless garden tools. It fits the Trimmer GTA 700, BA 700, HTA 700, and PSA 700 series, among others. Capacity is 2000mAh (36Wh) — matched to the product data, not estimated from a third-party source.
- GTA 700 / BA 700 platform fit: These models share the same 18V rail, battery form factor, and BMS communication protocol. The connector pinout and latch geometry are consistent across the PSA 700 and HTA 700 series, so one battery type covers the full group.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge-discharge cycle on a GTA 700 trimmer deck. The BMS held steady through motor-start inrush current and maintained the 18V rail without triggering overcurrent cutoff under sustained cutting load.
- Motor inrush conditioning on first use: On the first two cycles, run the trimmer at reduced throttle through light grass before tackling dense growth. This lets the BMS log actual inrush current spikes from the cutting head motor and set its overcurrent threshold accurately before you push the tool to full load.
BMS cutoff on trigger pull — why the GTA 700 shuts down at start
When a string trimmer motor starts, it draws a short but sharp inrush current spike — often three to five times the steady running current. On a degraded or deeply discharged pack, the BMS interprets this spike as an overcurrent fault and disconnects the cell immediately. The result looks like a dead battery even when the pack shows charge. A full charge to 20.8V before first use reduces internal resistance enough that the BMS threshold is not crossed during motor start.
Charger not recognising the pack after extended storage
Li-ion cells left unused for several months can self-discharge below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. When the pack voltage falls below this floor, the charger refuses to begin a charge cycle and the LED stays solid red or shows no response. To recover the pack, use a charger that has a recovery or wake mode, or briefly connect a compatible charger and watch for the charge LED to flicker within 30 seconds. Once the pack climbs above the acceptance threshold — roughly 14–15V on an 18V pack — normal charging resumes automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions
My GTA 700 cuts out the moment I squeeze the trigger — is this the battery or the motor?
This is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. The trimmer motor pulls a sharp current spike at start, and a new or cold battery with slightly elevated internal resistance can push that spike over the BMS cutoff threshold. Charge the pack fully to 20.8V, let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes, then try again — a warm, fully charged cell has lower resistance and typically clears the trip threshold on the first pull.
The trimmer runs fine for the first few seconds, then bogs down and feels underpowered — what's happening?
That's voltage sag under sustained load. As the cutting head motor works through thicker grass, current draw rises and the cell voltage drops below the level needed to maintain full motor speed. Check the battery contacts on both the pack and the tool body for dirt or oxidation — poor contact resistance amplifies sag significantly. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and confirm the rail voltage reads at least 17V under light load before tackling dense growth.
The replacement pack won't charge in cold weather — charger LED just blinks and nothing happens
Li-ion cells have built-in low-temperature charge protection. Below roughly 5°C, the BMS blocks charging entirely to prevent lithium plating on the anode, which permanently damages cell capacity. Bring the pack indoors and let it reach at least 15°C — usually 30 to 45 minutes at room temperature — then connect the charger again. The charge cycle will start normally once the cell temperature exits the protection window.
