Motor speed dropping before the low-battery indicator lights

The RR-3's indicator circuit monitors charge time elapsed, not live cell voltage under load. Under the current draw of the shaver motor, an aged or faulty cell's voltage sags below the motor driver's operating floor before the indicator registers low. The result is audible motor slowdown — or full stop — while the display still shows charge remaining. Why does my RR-3 shaver slow down mid-shave even though the indicator still shows charge?

The RR-3's charge indicator tracks elapsed charge time, not real-time cell voltage. Under motor load, an ageing Ni-MH cell voltage-sags below the motor driver's minimum operating threshold before the indicator catches up. The shaver slows or stalls while the display still shows partial charge remaining. Test the cell under load — a healthy cell holds above 2.0V; below that, replace the battery.

My RR-3 won't charge after I rinsed it. Is the charger faulty?

Most likely not the charger. Moisture bridging the two charging contacts shorts them momentarily, which the BMS reads as a fault condition — it locks out charging and the device appears completely dead. Leave the shaver dock-free with the charging port facing down for at least 30 minutes to let residual water clear. Once dry, reconnect to the charger; if charging resumes, the BMS has reset and the cell is fine.

The RR-3 dock contacts look dark and don't seem to be charging the shaver — is this a battery problem?

Dark or tarnished dock contacts are usually oxidation from cleaning product residue, not a battery fault. The oxide layer increases contact resistance enough that the charge current drops below what the BMS needs to register a valid charge connection. Clean the contacts on both the dock and the shaver base with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, let them dry fully, then re-dock. If the charging indicator activates normally after that, the cell and BMS are unaffected.
