Why the HS50 motor slows before the charge indicator reaches empty

Ni-MH cells experience a voltage sag under motor load before the battery reaches true cutoff. The HS50's charge indicator reads resting voltage, not loaded voltage, so it can show a partial charge while the cell is already sagging below what the motor needs to run at full speed. This is most noticeable in cells that have gone through many shallow cycles — internal resistance climbs and the sag deepens.
