After rinsing the RR-3, I put it on the dock and it won't charge at all — the light doesn't come on. Is it the dock or the battery?
Most of the time it's neither — it's moisture bridging the charging contacts. Water residue between the dock pins and the shaver contacts creates a short that trips the BMS protection circuit, which the device reports as a dead battery rather than a charging fault. Dry both the shaver's charging port and the dock contacts thoroughly with a cloth, wait five minutes, then reconnect. The dock contacts on my RR-3 look discoloured and the shaver charges intermittently — is that a battery problem?
Discoloured dock contacts are oxidation from cleaning product or water mineral exposure, not a battery fault. Oxidised contacts raise resistance enough to deliver insufficient current to the cell, which the shaver reads as a charging error or a weak battery. Clean the dock pins and the corresponding shaver contacts with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, let them dry fully, then reseat the shaver. If charging resumes consistently, the cell itself is not the cause.
