Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fossil Kate Spade DW9P1 / DW9K1 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (APP00286)
This is a 3.8V, 350mAh lithium-polymer cell replacing part number APP00286 in the Kate Spade DW9P1 and DW9K1 smartwatches. Both watches share the same battery bay geometry (28.00 × 23.50 × 4.20mm) and BMS handshake, so one part covers both references. Capacity matches the original spec exactly — no guesswork on fit or connector polarity.
- DW9P1 and DW9K1 platform compatibility: These two Kate Spade models share the same mainboard revision and fuel gauge IC. The connector pinout, physical footprint, and BMS communication protocol are identical across both, so APP00286 is the correct cell for either watch without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a DW9P1 mainboard and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without throwing a fault code. Charge acceptance reached full capacity within the first cycle, and the fuel gauge reported correctly after calibration.
- Post-swap charge cycle on Kate Spade watches: After fitting this cell, place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately and charge to 100% before use. The fuel gauge IC on this platform loses its reference point when the original cell is removed — it cannot calibrate accurately without a full charge from near-zero after a swap.
Why the DW9P1 shows incorrect battery percentage after a cell swap
The DW9P1 uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that tracks charge state relative to a stored baseline. When the original cell is removed, that baseline is wiped. The IC then reads the new cell's open-circuit voltage and makes a rough estimate — often wildly inaccurate. A full charge cycle from near-zero resets the baseline and restores accurate percentage reporting. Until that cycle completes, readings of 0%, 100%, or random jumps are all expected behaviour, not a faulty cell.
Watch not pairing to the app after battery replacement
Removing power kills the active Bluetooth Low Energy session between the DW9P1 and the paired phone. The watch does not automatically re-establish that session on reboot — the phone treats it as a disconnected device. Go to the phone's Bluetooth settings, forget the watch, then re-pair through the Kate Spade Connected app from scratch. Do not attempt to re-pair without first forgetting the old pairing entry — that step is skipped most often and causes the re-pair to fail.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Kate Spade DW9P1 shows 0% and won't turn on right after I put the new battery in — is the cell dead?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC on the DW9P1 loses its charge reference the moment the original battery is disconnected, and it defaults to 0% when it can't establish a baseline from the new cell's voltage. Place the watch on the magnetic charger immediately and leave it until the display confirms 100%. That full charge cycle resets the IC and the watch will power on and report accurately from that point.
The replacement battery on my DW9K1 is draining completely in a single day — the old one lasted several days. What's drawing it down?
A new cell on a different internal impedance profile causes the always-on display and continuous heart rate sensor to draw slightly more current than they did on the worn original — the power management IC takes a few charge cycles to settle. Check that always-on display mode and continuous heart rate monitoring are not both active simultaneously in the Kate Spade Connected app settings. If drain continues past the first week of normal use, disable always-on display and confirm the watch is not stuck in an active workout-tracking session, which holds the HR sensor on permanently.
The magnetic charger clicks into place but the DW9P1 shows no charging indicator after reassembly — what's wrong?
The charge contacts on the back of the case can shift slightly during reassembly, putting them fractionally out of alignment with the charger's magnet center. Remove the charger, inspect the contact pads on the watch back for any adhesive residue or debris from the swap, and reseat the charger firmly. If the charging indicator still does not appear, check that the battery connector is fully seated on the mainboard — a partially connected ribbon can pass enough voltage to power the watch but not enough to trigger the charge management circuit, which requires a stable 5V input to initialise.
