Fits JBL Charge 5 speaker; replaces OEM part GSP-1S3P-CH4A and cross-reference numbers 1AA011NA, IAA011NA, IBA077NA, ICA086NA.
3.7V, 7800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the amp-hour capacity the Charge 5 amplifier and Bluetooth radio demand during extended playback sessions.
Connector seats flat into the speaker's battery slot with no locking tab — slides straight in and seats flush against the housing.
We bench-tested this pack in a Charge 5 unit; BMS accepted the first charge without cutoff and held voltage steady under combined audio and wireless load.
On first insertion, power on the speaker and run it at half volume for two discharge cycles before pushing full-volume playback — this lets the fuel gauge calibrate correctly to the fresh cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JBL Charge 5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (GSP-1S3P-CH4A)

This 3.7V Li-ion battery replaces the factory cell in the JBL Charge 5 portable Bluetooth speaker. It also fits the Charge 4 using part number GSP-1S3P-CH4A. Capacity is 7800mAh (28.86Wh), matching the original cell specification.

  • Charge 4 and Charge 5 compatibility: Both speakers share the same cell footprint and connector orientation. The GSP-1S3P-CH4A part number covers both generations. The BMS handshake protocol and voltage rail are identical across these two models, so no firmware mismatch occurs on install.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Charge 5 unit. The BMS accepted the pack without error flags, balanced the cells correctly, and the speaker's LED fuel gauge reported accurately across the full voltage range.
  • Fuel gauge calibration tip: If you use this speaker on a desk and top it off constantly, let it discharge below 20% at least once a month before reconnecting the charger. Constant shallow cycling causes fuel gauge drift — the indicator will show full charge while actual capacity quietly erodes.

Audio distorting before the battery indicator reaches empty

The Charge 5 amplifier draws a sharp current spike at high volume. When the cell voltage sags under that combined amplifier and radio load, the amp clips before the battery indicator triggers its low-charge warning. The indicator reads the resting voltage, not the loaded voltage under peak draw. If you hear distortion while the gauge still shows one or two bars, check that the cell is above 3.5V under load — a healthy cell at this capacity holds that rail without sag.

Speaker won't respond to USB-C charging after sitting unused for months

A deeply discharged Li-ion cell can fall below the USB-C Power Delivery minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point the speaker's charging circuit doesn't negotiate a PD handshake and nothing happens when you plug in. Connect the speaker to a 5V USB-A charger instead of a USB-C PD source first; the lower-current path can tickle the BMS back into accepting charge. Once the cell reaches roughly 3.0V, switch to the standard USB-C cable and charge normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My JBL Charge 5 shows a full charge but the audio cuts out after about an hour of play — is the battery failing?

Yes, this is fuel gauge drift from shallow cycling. When the speaker is topped off repeatedly without a full discharge, the BMS loses track of true capacity and the gauge reads optimistically. Let the battery discharge below 20% fully, then charge to 100% in one uninterrupted session to recalibrate. If the problem persists after two or three of these cycles, the original cell has degraded and replacement is the fix.

Bluetooth keeps dropping when I push the volume past halfway on a fresh charge — why?

The amplifier and Bluetooth radio draw simultaneously at high volume, and that combined current spike can cause momentary voltage sag if the cell's internal resistance has risen. The radio loses signal during the sag, not from interference. We saw this on the bench with aged cells — the new 7800mAh pack holds the voltage rail stable under that combined load. Check that the battery contacts are clean and seated fully; even a slight gap adds resistance and worsens sag.

The Charge 5 feels noticeably warm on the fabric grille during long play sessions — is that normal or a battery issue?

Some warmth is expected — the amplifier generates heat during sustained output, and the battery adds its own discharge heat inside the enclosed housing. It becomes a concern if the speaker activates its thermal protection and cuts audio without a low-battery warning. That cut-out means the combined heat inside the cabinet has exceeded the BMS thermal threshold. Move the speaker to an open surface away from fabric or cushions during extended play, and keep ambient temperature below 35°C to keep the internal temperature within the BMS operating window.
