Fits Varos 307 surveying instruments and replaces OEM part HHR450AF10.
12V, 3800mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers sustained power through extended fieldwork measurement sessions.
Connector slots vertically into the battery compartment with a single locking tab on the right side.
We bench tested against a Varos 307 under continuous sensor load — voltage held steady without dropout during 45-minute logging cycles.
After installation, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the device maps battery state during calibration and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KWS ELECTRONIC Varos 307 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HHR450AF10)

This is a 12V, 3800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the KWS ELECTRONIC Varos 307 surveying instrument. It matches the original HHR450AF10 specification and fits directly into the Varos 307 battery compartment. Capacity is rated at 45.6Wh.

  • Varos 307 platform fit: The Varos 307 uses a fixed 12V Ni-MH pack with a BMS handshake that checks cell count and voltage at power-on. This replacement matches the cell configuration and connector pinout so the instrument recognises the pack without error codes at startup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Varos 307 power-on sequence and monitored the BMS response during sensor initialisation. The BMS held stable through the current spike at probe power-up and did not trip into protection mode.
  • Pre-deployment calibration cycle: After installing this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the Varos 307 instrument menu before taking it into the field. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session even when the pack is fully charged.

Varos 307 shutting down mid-measurement with no prior warning

Ni-MH cells drop voltage sharply at the end of their discharge curve — far more abruptly than Li-ion. The Varos 307 BMS monitors cell voltage continuously, and if a weakened cell in the pack dips below the cutoff threshold under sensor load, the instrument powers off immediately with no ramp-down warning. This is not a firmware fault. Replacing the pack with a fresh 3800mAh unit restores the flat mid-discharge voltage curve the BMS expects. After fitting the new pack, confirm resting voltage reads above 13.2V before field deployment.

Varos 307 not recognising a new pack after the instrument sat unused for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. If the Varos 307 sat in a carry case for several months with the original pack installed, the cells likely discharged below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 9V for a 12V Ni-MH pack. When the new replacement pack is fitted after a long storage period, the BMS may also be in a low-power sleep state and fail to initialise the instrument. Connect the instrument to its charger for a minimum 30-minute trickle charge session before attempting to power on — this wakes the BMS and brings cell voltage into the operating window.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Varos 307 powers on fine but shuts off partway through a USB data transfer to a PC — is that the battery?

Yes. USB data transfer adds a combined draw on top of the active sensor load, and if the Ni-MH cells are aged or partially discharged, the voltage sags enough to trip the BMS cutoff mid-transfer. This is not a USB port or software fault. Fit a fresh pack and confirm the resting voltage reads above 13.2V before starting the transfer. If the shutdown repeats with a new pack, check that the instrument firmware is current — some Varos 307 units have a known power management update that raises the BMS trip threshold tolerance.

The battery percentage on the Varos 307 display jumps around and shows different values every time the instrument reboots — why?

The Varos 307 uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate charge state, not a coulomb counter. When a new Ni-MH pack is fitted, the instrument has no baseline for the new cells and reads the open-circuit voltage against a stored table that was calibrated to the old degraded pack. The displayed percentage stabilises after two or three full charge-discharge cycles as the instrument recalibrates the thresholds to the new cells. Run those cycles through normal field use, including a full calibration sequence from the instrument menu each time, and the reading will settle.

The Varos 307 battery charged fully overnight but the instrument shut down within the first few minutes of taking readings the next morning — what causes that?

This is a voltage sag failure, not a capacity problem. Ni-MH packs can show a full charge voltage at rest but collapse quickly under the sustained load of active sensor operation if the cells have internal resistance above a healthy threshold. A new 3800mAh pack at the correct 12V rating restores the low internal resistance the Varos 307 needs to sustain voltage under sensor load. Before deploying to site, run the instrument through its full calibration cycle so it maps battery state against the new cells — this prevents the BMS from triggering a false early cutoff.
