Fits RAE Systems QRAE II gas detector; replaces OEM part number 20-3402-000.
3.7V, 2300mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers sustained power for multi-gas sensor operation during field surveys.
Connector slides into the battery slot beneath the detector housing with a single locking tab.
We ran load cycles on the probe initialization circuit; BMS held voltage stable through sensor startup spikes.
After installing this cell, run the full calibration routine through the QRAE II menu before field work — the detector maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on first measurement.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RAE Systems QRAE II Gas Monitor — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (20-3402-000)

This 3.7V, 2300mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the OEM pack in the RAE Systems QRAE II portable multi-gas detector. It fits the QRAE II and QRAE II Gas Monitor Detector used in confined space entry, industrial hygiene surveys, and hazardous area inspections. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • QRAE II platform fit: The QRAE II uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack with a proprietary connector and onboard BMS handshake. This replacement carries the same cell geometry — 56.90 × 47.62 × 17.24mm — and communicates correctly with the instrument's power management circuit so the detector boots normally and displays charge state without fault codes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the QRAE II power-up sequence and sustained sensor load across the electrochemical, LEL, and oxygen channels simultaneously. The BMS held voltage steady under the combined sensor draw and did not trip during gas-alarm events, which briefly spike current as the audible and visual alerts fire together.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the QRAE II instrument menu before field deployment. The detector maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to appear on the first monitoring session even when the pack is fully charged.

BMS lockout after the QRAE II sat unused in a carry case for months

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge slowly during storage. If the QRAE II was left in a bag for several months, the cell voltage may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V for single-cell packs. When this happens, the BMS latches into a protective lockout state and the charger sees no load, so the indicator light either stays off or flashes an error. Place the detector on charge for at least 30 minutes without interruption; most BMS circuits include a trickle-recovery mode that will slowly raise cell voltage back above the 2.7V reinitialisation threshold before allowing a normal charge cycle to begin.

Readings drifting or logging session resetting mid-survey

The QRAE II's electrochemical sensors draw sustained current throughout a logging session, and an aged or partially depleted pack can sag below the detector's minimum operating voltage under that load even when the charge indicator still shows bars. When voltage droops momentarily, the instrument's processor resets and the active log entry is lost. This is a voltage-dropout failure, not a firmware issue. Fitting a fresh pack and confirming the open-circuit voltage reads at or above 3.9V before deployment will prevent mid-session resets.

Frequently Asked Questions

The QRAE II powers on fine but shuts off the moment it starts initialising the sensors — why?

Sensor initialisation pulls a brief current spike as each electrochemical cell and the LEL catalytic bead heater energise at the same time. An aged or low-capacity pack can't sustain that spike without voltage collapsing below the BMS cutoff threshold, which triggers an immediate shutdown. This is a battery-capacity failure, not a sensor fault. Fit a fresh pack and confirm the open-circuit voltage is at or above 3.9V before powering the detector on.

The QRAE II won't charge after being stored for several months — charger light stays dark or just blinks.

Extended storage causes the Li-Polymer cell to self-discharge past the BMS recovery floor, usually around 2.5V. Below that point the BMS blocks charging to protect the cell, and the charger sees no load. Leave the detector seated on the charger undisturbed for 30–45 minutes — the BMS trickle-recovery circuit will attempt to raise the cell voltage back above 2.7V, after which a normal charge cycle will begin and the indicator will switch to solid red.

The QRAE II shuts down every time we transfer logged data to a PC via USB — is this a software issue?

It's not software. USB data transfer adds a communication-circuit draw on top of the active sensor load, and that combined current can push a partially depleted or degraded pack below the instrument's minimum voltage. The processor detects the undervoltage condition and shuts down to protect the log data from corruption. Start any USB transfer with the battery at a full charge, confirmed by a steady green charge indicator, to keep voltage above the 3.7V nominal floor throughout the transfer.
