Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topcon FC100 / FC2000 Field Controller — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-30)
This 7.4V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM BT-30, BT-62Q, BT-65Q, and BT-66Q packs used in Topcon FC100 and FC2000 Field Controllers. These handheld data collectors run GPS positioning, mapping, and real-time site measurement software in the field. Same voltage rail, same connector, same BMS handshake as the original pack.
- FC100 and FC2000 compatibility: Both controllers share the same battery bay geometry, 7.4V nominal rail, and OEM BMS communication protocol. The BT-30 form factor covers all hardware revisions of both models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge and discharge cycle on an FC100 unit. The BMS correctly reported state of charge throughout, and the controller accepted the pack without a battery-fault flag at startup.
- Pre-deployment calibration cycle: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the FC100's instrument menu before heading to site. The controller maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session in the field.
FC100 shutting down mid-session after months in the carry case
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If an FC100 sits unused for several months, the pack voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell, or roughly 5.0V across the pack. At that point the BMS latches into a protective sleep state and the controller will not power on. Placing the battery on a charger that supports a trickle or recovery pre-charge mode will bring it back. Once cell voltage climbs above 3.0V per cell, the BMS exits sleep and a normal charge cycle completes.
GPS lock acquired, then FC100 resets or freezes during active data logging
Sustained sensor and radio load during active GPS logging draws significantly more current than the idle state. If the battery cells have aged or the pack has a weakened cell, voltage sags under this load and dips below the controller's cutoff threshold — triggering a mid-session reset. This is different from a BMS fault; the unit restarts rather than shutting off cleanly. Fit a fresh pack, run the calibration cycle, and check that the controller holds voltage above 7.0V during a live GPS lock session before returning to site.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FC100 won't turn on after sitting in the bag all winter — new battery, same problem?
A battery stored for months can drop below the BMS recovery voltage, locking the pack in a sleep state even if the pack is otherwise good. Place the battery on a charger with a trickle or pre-charge recovery mode — not a fast charger — and leave it for at least two hours. Once each cell climbs above 3.0V, the BMS exits sleep and the pack accepts a normal charge cycle. Then fit it to the FC100 and power on.
FC100 powers on and connects to GPS, then resets itself mid-job with no warning — battery shows half full?
The percentage indicator recalibrates to a new cell's voltage curve over the first few cycles, so the display can read higher than actual capacity. Under sustained GPS and radio load, the pack voltage sags and hits the controller's undervoltage cutoff — triggering an abrupt reset rather than a clean shutdown. Run the full calibration cycle through the instrument menu after fitting the new battery so the FC100 maps the new cell's state correctly. After one full field cycle the percentage reading stabilises and the resets stop.
FC100 shuts off every time I connect it to the PC via USB to transfer survey data — fine on battery alone?
USB data transfer adds a second draw on top of the controller's normal operating load — the combined current can push a partially depleted or freshly installed pack past the BMS cutoff threshold. Charge the battery fully before attempting a transfer session, and confirm the pack reads above 7.2V under load before connecting the USB cable. If the shutdown happens even with a full charge, check that the USB cable is not simultaneously attempting to charge the device from the PC, which can cause a current-direction conflict in some FC100 firmware revisions.
