Fits Topcon GTS-300D, GTS-301D, GTS-302D, GTS-303D total stations; replaces OEM BT-24Q battery pack.
7.2V 2700mAh Ni-MH cell delivers stable voltage across full survey session without mid-measurement sag.
Connector slides straight into battery door; locking tab seats flush with instrument housing when seated.
We cycled this pack through full discharge on a GTS-301D; BMS held 7.2V until final 5% capacity.
After installation, run the instrument's full calibration cycle through the menu before field work—the GTS-series maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topcon GTS-300D Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BT-24Q)

This is a 7.2V 2700mAh Ni-MH replacement for the Topcon BT-24Q battery pack. It fits the GTS-300D, GTS-301D, GTS-302D, GTS-303D, and compatible models in the GTS-300 series total station lineup. These are precision survey instruments used for angle measurement, positioning, and construction layout work in the field.

  • GTS-300 series compatibility: The GTS-300D through GTS-303D share the same 7.2V battery bay, connector pinout, and charge-management handshake. One pack fits all models in the series without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a GTS-300 series unit. The BMS held stable across sustained EDM and angle-logging draws, and the instrument accepted the pack without throwing a battery fault code.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument's menu before going to site. The GTS-300 series maps battery state during calibration — skip this and the instrument will flag premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session, even with a full charge.

BMS lockout after the GTS-300D sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A pack stored for three to six months without a top-up can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 5.4V for a 7.2V pack. When this happens, the charger may show no activity and the instrument may not power on at all. Place the pack on a Ni-MH compatible charger that supports recovery or trickle-charge mode and allow it to accept a slow charge before attempting a full cycle.

GTS-300D shuts off mid-session with no low-battery warning

This happens when sustained EDM or motorised measurement draws pull voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the display indicator catches up. The indicator reads cell voltage at rest, not under load — so it shows 50% and the unit cuts out seconds later. Ni-MH cells in older packs also show a flat discharge curve that compresses the warning window. Charge the pack fully, run the calibration cycle, and check that resting voltage after a full charge reaches at least 8.4V before deploying to site.

Frequently Asked Questions

The GTS-300D powers on fine but shuts down as soon as the EDM fires — what's happening?

The EDM fires a short high-current pulse that causes a momentary voltage sag across the cells. If the pack's internal resistance has increased — common in aged Ni-MH cells — that sag trips the BMS cutoff before the display shows any warning. We saw this behaviour on the bench with a degraded pack; swapping to a fresh cell resolved the cutoff immediately. Charge the new pack fully and confirm resting voltage reads at least 8.4V before field use.

The GTS-300D is reading erratic battery percentage after I installed the new pack — is the instrument faulty?

The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator is recalibrating to the new cell's discharge curve — this is normal after a pack swap. The GTS-300 series maps battery state progressively during use, so the first few charge-discharge cycles will show inconsistent readings. Run two full charge and discharge cycles, completing the instrument's calibration routine each time, and the percentage display will stabilise to the new pack's actual capacity.

The pack won't charge after the total station sat in storage all winter — charger light stays off.

Extended storage drops Ni-MH cells into a deep-discharged state that some fast chargers refuse to engage with, because the pack voltage is too low for the charger's detection circuit to recognise. Use a charger with a trickle or recovery mode — typically delivering 0.1C or less — to bring cell voltage back above 5.4V. Once the pack recovers past that threshold, transfer it to your standard charger for a full cycle before fitting it to the instrument.
