Fits Trimble S3, S5, S6, S7 total stations; replaces OEM part 79400 and 99511-30.
11.1V 6800mAh lithium-ion pack delivers sustained power through full field measurement sessions without dropout.
Slide connector orients vertically into instrument battery slot; locking tab seats flush against instrument frame.
We ran load cycles on S3 platform; BMS held steady under continuous sensor draw with zero cutoff events.
After installation, run the instrument's full calibration routine before fieldwork — this resets voltage mapping and prevents false low-battery warnings during first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Trimble S3 / S5 / S6 / S7 Total Station — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (79400 / 99511-30)

This is an 11.1V, 6800mAh lithium-ion replacement battery for Trimble total stations, including the S3, S5, S6, and S7 series. It matches OEM part numbers 79400 and 99511-30. The battery slots into the instrument's battery bay and connects to the onboard power management system that controls field operation.

  • S3 through S7 shared power platform: These total station models run on the same 11.1V three-cell architecture and use the same battery bay connector and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers all four instrument variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through servo motor initialisation, EDM prism lock sequences, and sustained angle-logging draws. The BMS held stable across all load transitions and did not trigger a protection cutoff during motor-start current spikes.
  • First-use calibration before field deployment: After installing a new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument's onboard menu before heading to site. The S3 maps battery state during that routine — skip it and the low-battery warning will fire early on your first measurement session, even with a full charge.

BMS cutoff during EDM or servo initialisation on the S3

When the S3 fires its EDM module or initialises the servo drive, current draw spikes sharply for 200–400 milliseconds. A battery with aged or unbalanced cells can't sustain that spike without voltage sagging below the BMS protection threshold. The BMS interprets the sag as a fault and shuts the pack down mid-sequence. This pack's cells are balanced at the factory and the BMS threshold is tuned to allow motor-start transients without tripping.

S3 powers on but shuts off during Bluetooth or USB data transfer to PC

Data transfer adds a secondary load on top of the active instrument draw — the radio or USB controller pulls current at the same time the processor is reading flash memory. On a low-capacity or partially discharged pack, the combined draw pushes instantaneous current above what the BMS allows. The instrument cuts power to protect the cells, and the transfer fails. Charge the pack to above 12.2V before initiating any transfer session to keep headroom above the BMS cutoff floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Trimble S3 won't recognise the new battery after it sat unused in the case for several months — what's happening?

When a lithium-ion pack sits below approximately 9V for an extended period, the BMS enters a sleep state and stops responding to the instrument's handshake. The S3 sees no communication from the pack and treats it as absent. Connect the battery directly to a compatible Li-ion charger and let it run a recovery charge until the cell voltage climbs above 10.5V — at that point the BMS wakes and the instrument will detect the pack normally.

Angle readings are drifting or resetting mid-session even though the battery indicator looks fine — what causes that?

This is a voltage dropout issue under sustained sensor and servo load, not a capacity problem. The indicator reads a resting voltage snapshot, but when the EDM, servo, and display draw simultaneously, the actual terminal voltage dips below the instrument's stable operating threshold and the processor resets. Check that the battery terminals are clean and making full contact, then charge the pack to a full 12.6V before the next session to maximise the buffer above the dropout point.

The S3 battery percentage jumps around after a reboot — shows 80%, then 40% two minutes later. Is the pack faulty?

The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator recalibrates to new cell characteristics during the first few charge-discharge cycles. A fresh pack has a slightly different discharge curve than the original, and the display logic hasn't mapped it yet. Run two full charge and field-discharge cycles — not bench discharge, actual measurement sessions — and the percentage will stabilise as the instrument builds an accurate state-of-charge profile for the new cells.
