Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Fluke IR SMART / Ti50FT / Ti55FT — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (TI-SBP)
This is a 7.4V, 6800mAh Li-ion battery that replaces the OEM TI-SBP pack in Fluke thermal imaging cameras. It fits the IR SMART, IR Flexcam, Ti50FT, and Ti55FT, among others. The battery slots into the same bay and communicates with the camera's power management circuit the same way the original does.
- IR SMART and Ti-series compatibility: These models share a common battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The camera's firmware reads cell voltage and temperature data from the battery over the communication line — this pack responds to those queries correctly, so charge indicators and low-battery warnings behave as expected.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a Ti50FT under a simulated full-inspection load — display active, IR detector heating element drawing constant current. The BMS held steady through repeated charge-discharge cycles and did not trigger a false protection cutoff during motor-start-equivalent surge events.
- Field storage between inspections: If the camera will sit unused for more than two weeks, power it off completely rather than leaving it in standby. The thermal detector's idle heating circuit continues drawing current in standby, which can drag the pack below the BMS recovery threshold before your next job.
Thermal camera shutting down mid-inspection on a new battery
The Fluke Ti-series draws from two simultaneous loads: the LCD display and the uncooled microbolometer detector's heating element. Together, these create a combined current spike that can trip a BMS protection circuit if the pack's internal resistance is even slightly elevated. A new battery with a weak cell or a poorly matched BMS will cut out under this dual load even when the charge indicator still reads above 50%. The camera interprets the voltage drop as a fault condition and shuts down to protect the sensor array. If this happens, let the camera sit powered off for 60 seconds, then restart — if it recovers and runs normally, the issue is BMS sensitivity, not cell capacity.
Thermal accuracy drifting before the battery indicator shows low
The microbolometer detector in these cameras is voltage-sensitive — measurement accuracy degrades when cell voltage drops below approximately 7.0V even though the battery indicator may not flag low until closer to 6.6V. This means you can be looking at inaccurate temperature readings while the gauge still shows a usable charge. If spot temperatures start reading inconsistently against a known reference surface during an inspection, check the camera's battery voltage readout in the status menu rather than relying on the bar indicator. Swap the battery when the voltage readout falls below 7.1V to keep measurements within the camera's published accuracy spec.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Fluke Ti50FT cuts out halfway through an inspection even though the battery was fully charged — what's happening?
The Ti-series runs the IR detector heating element and display simultaneously, and that combined draw can trip the battery's BMS protection circuit if internal resistance is even slightly high. The camera shuts down to protect the sensor, not because the cells are empty. Power the camera off for 60 seconds, restart, and check whether it completes the inspection — if it does, the original pack's BMS is the failure point, not residual charge. Replace the battery and confirm cell voltage reads above 7.2V at startup using the camera's status menu.
My thermal images look accurate at the start of a job but temperature readings drift by the end — could the battery be causing this?
Yes — the microbolometer detector in these cameras loses measurement accuracy when supply voltage drops below roughly 7.0V, but the battery bar indicator doesn't flag low until around 6.6V. That gap means you can be capturing inaccurate readings while the gauge still looks fine. Pull up the voltage readout in the camera's status menu during your next inspection and note when the drift starts — if it coincides with voltage falling below 7.1V, swap the battery at that threshold rather than waiting for the low-battery warning.
The battery drains much faster than expected even when I'm not using the camera heavily — is something wrong with the pack?
The thermal detector's idle heating circuit keeps drawing current whenever the camera is in standby mode, not just during active imaging. If you leave the camera in standby between inspections rather than powering it off fully, that continuous draw will deplete the pack significantly faster than normal use suggests. Power the camera off completely when not actively shooting, and check the pack voltage before heading to a job — anything below 7.4V after a recent full charge points to standby drain rather than a faulty cell. A full charge followed by a hard power-off should restore expected capacity between jobs.
