Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola SX700R / TalkAbout FV700R — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (KEBT072A)
This is a 4.8V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Motorola SX700R, M370H1A, TalkAbout FV700R, and TalkAbout SX700 series two-way radios. It matches OEM part numbers KEBT072A, KEBT-072-A, KEBT072, and BNH-370. Voltage and cell count are identical to the original pack.
- SX700R and TalkAbout series fit: These models share the same 4.8V four-cell Ni-MH pack format, connector pinout, and physical housing. The BMS handshake is identical across the range, so one pack fits all listed models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge-discharge cycle on an SX700R dock. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on first insertion, held stable voltage across simulated PTT transmit bursts, and showed no overcurrent trip under repeated keying.
- First insertion on the dock: If the charger LED blinks or shows a fault on first seat, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The TalkAbout dock requires a clean contact cycle to register the new pack before charging begins — this is not a fault with the battery.
Why the SX700R cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly installed pack
A new Ni-MH cell ships at storage voltage — typically 1.0–1.1V per cell, well below the 1.2V nominal. When four cells in series sit at storage voltage, the pack reads around 4.2–4.4V at rest. The SX700R's transmit circuit draws a sharp current spike the moment PTT is pressed. If the pack hasn't completed at least one full charge cycle, that spike can pull cell voltage below the radio's cutoff threshold, dropping the transmission. Charge the pack fully before first use and the issue clears.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after charging
The SX700R uses a simple voltage-threshold bar display — each bar maps to a voltage window, not a capacity percentage. A new Ni-MH pack that hasn't been cycled yet may rest at 4.7V after its first charge rather than the full 4.9–5.0V a conditioned pack holds. The radio reads that as one bar short. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles and resting voltage will stabilise. After conditioning, the indicator should read full at or above 4.85V under light load.

Frequently Asked Questions
The SX700R dock light blinks continuously after I put in the new battery — it never settles into a solid charge light. What's wrong?
The TalkAbout dock checks contact resistance before it starts a charge cycle. If the gold contacts on the battery or dock are slightly oxidised or dusty, the dock reads an open circuit and blinks indefinitely. Remove the pack, wipe the contacts on both the battery and the dock cradle with a dry cloth, and reseat the battery with firm pressure. The fault clears in most cases within 30 seconds of a clean reseat.
My SX700R drops to a noticeably weaker signal mid-shift even though the battery was fully charged at the start — what causes that?
Sustained RF output pulls more current than standby, and a Ni-MH pack under continuous TX load shows voltage sag as internal cell impedance rises with heat. On the SX700R, voltage sag past the radio's lower TX threshold triggers an automatic power reduction — the transmission doesn't cut out, but output drops and the other party notices. Let the radio cool for five minutes and voltage recovers to normal operating range; the next transmission goes out at full power.
This pack sat in a drawer for several months and now the dock won't charge it at all — is the battery dead?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day, so after a few months in storage the pack voltage can drop below the dock's minimum acceptance threshold — typically around 4.0V on the TalkAbout platform. The dock sees the low voltage as a fault condition and refuses to start a charge cycle. Use a compatible Ni-MH charger set to trickle or recovery mode to bring the pack above 4.2V, then transfer it to the SX700R dock; it will accept the charge handshake and complete a normal charge from there.
