Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Neato Botvac Connected Series — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (945-0225)
This 14.4V, 4200mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original power cell in the Neato Botvac Connected, Botvac Connected D3, Botvac Connected D5, and Botvac D3 Connected, along with 27 additional compatible models. It slots into the same bay as the factory unit and uses the same BMS communication protocol the Neato charger expects. Capacity is rated at 60.48Wh.
- Botvac Connected platform compatibility: The Connected series shares a common 14.4V architecture and identical battery bay dimensions across D3, D5, and base Connected variants. All models use the same four-cell Li-ion configuration and the same BMS handshake, so one battery covers the full range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full charge and discharge cycles on a Botvac Connected unit. The BMS held charge termination correctly, reported state-of-charge accurately to the robot's firmware, and triggered low-voltage cutoff at the expected threshold without error codes.
- Dock charging discipline for Botvac models: The Botvac Connected is programmed to return to dock after every clean cycle, which means the battery sits on trickle charge continuously if left unattended. Remove the robot from the dock after the charge indicator shows full — continuous dock-sitting degrades Li-ion cells measurably faster than charge-then-disconnect cycles.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
The Botvac's motor draws significantly more current when airflow is restricted — a clogged filter or partially blocked intake can push draw well above the rated operating current. The BMS reads this as an accelerated voltage sag and begins throttling power to protect the cells before the charge gauge shows critical. The robot's suction weakens noticeably while the indicator still shows two or three bars. Clean the filter and check the brush roll channel first; if suction recovers immediately, the battery is not the fault.
Replacement battery not charging after first installation
The Neato charger uses a BMS handshake to confirm battery presence before delivering current — it does not simply push voltage into the contacts. A new Li-ion cell that has dropped below approximately 10V during storage may not respond to the handshake correctly, and the charger will show no charging activity. Place the robot on the dock for 20–30 minutes regardless; some BMS units wake from deep sleep after a trickle pre-charge. If the indicator remains dark, check that the battery contacts are fully seated and that the dock output measures 19–20V at the pins with a multimeter.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Neato Botvac cuts out mid-clean and then starts again on its own — is the battery failing?
This is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failing cell. When the brush roll or suction path is restricted, the motor draws a spike of current that the BMS reads as an overload and shuts down to protect the cells — then resets once current drops. Check the filter and brush roll before assuming the battery is at fault. If the robot runs cleanly after clearing the blockage, the battery is fine.
My Botvac's runtime has dropped noticeably since I started leaving it on the dock all the time — what caused that?
Continuous dock charging is the direct cause. The Botvac returns to dock automatically after every clean, which keeps the battery on a trickle charge indefinitely. Li-ion cells held at full charge under constant low current degrade faster than cells that are charged and then disconnected. Remove the robot from the dock once the charge indicator shows full and only re-dock it when the battery is depleted.
The suction feels weak from the start of the clean cycle, but the battery indicator shows full — what should I check first?
A blocked filter is the most common cause. When airflow is restricted, the motor works harder and draws more current than rated, which causes voltage sag across the battery even at high state-of-charge. The robot interprets this as reduced available power and limits motor output. Remove and clean the filter, then run a cycle — if suction returns to normal, the battery was not the issue.
