Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Shark SV780N Series — 16.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (XB780N)
This is a 16.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Shark SV780N cordless stick vacuum. It fits the SV780N, SV780, SV780_N, and SV760 models using OEM part number XB780N. When the original cell loses its ability to hold charge, this unit restores the vacuum to normal working condition.
- SV780 and SV760 platform compatibility: These models share the same 16.8V battery rail, connector housing, and BMS communication protocol — which is why a single cell covers all four variants listed. The pack slots directly into the battery bay and the vacuum's charge circuit recognises it without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge cycles on the SV780N dock and monitored BMS handshake, cutoff voltage at full discharge, and thermal response under sustained motor load. The BMS held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold with no false trips during normal suction cycles.
- Dock charging discipline for Ni-MH cells: Do not leave this vacuum on the dock permanently. Ni-MH chemistry is particularly vulnerable to trickle-charge damage from continuous dock contact — capacity fade accelerates significantly faster than in cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor draws more current than the battery can deliver at its current state of charge — voltage sags under load even though the indicator still reads mid-range. A clogged filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling higher current and triggering earlier voltage sag. Clean or replace the foam and felt filters before fitting a new battery. If suction recovers after a filter clean, the original cell was likely not the primary cause of the problem.
Motor cuts out mid-clean then restarts after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — blocked brush roll, saturated filter, or a sealed nozzle — the motor current spikes above the BMS threshold and the pack cuts power to protect the cell. After a brief pause the BMS resets and the vacuum restarts. Clear the blockage and clean the filter first. If the cut-outs stop after clearing the restriction, the battery and BMS are functioning correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Shark SV780N runs for a short time even with a brand-new replacement battery — is that normal?
A partially blocked filter is the most common cause. When the filter restricts airflow, the motor draws more current than rated to maintain suction, which depletes the cell faster than a clean-filter run would. Clean or replace both the foam and felt filters before drawing any conclusions about the new battery. If runtime improves after the filter clean, the cell is working correctly.
The vacuum has been sitting on the dock for weeks and now barely runs — did the battery fail from storage?
Continuous dock contact is the likely cause. Ni-MH cells left on a trickle charge indefinitely develop capacity fade that standard charge cycles cannot fully reverse. Remove the battery, let it discharge fully through normal use, then charge it to 100% and pull it from the dock immediately. Repeat two or three full cycles — some capacity typically recovers, though cells stored this way for months may not return to full rated capacity.
The replacement battery won't charge at all on the dock — the charger light never comes on. What's wrong?
The SV780N charger expects the battery's BMS to respond with a specific handshake before it begins charging. If the cell arrived fully depleted or was deep-discharged in transit, the BMS may not respond and the charger stays dark. Connect the battery, leave it on the dock for 30 minutes without interruption — some BMS controllers need a trickle pre-charge period before full charge initialisation begins. If the light still does not activate after 30 minutes, check that the dock contacts are clean and making firm contact with the battery terminals.
