Fits Plantronics CT14 DECT headset and replaces OEM part numbers 80639-01, 81087-01, and 81087-02.
2.4V, 700mAh Ni-MH cell delivers the voltage and capacity needed for full wireless operation between headset and base station without cutout.
Connector slides into the battery bay with flat orientation; locking tab seats flush against the housing — no force required on insertion.
We bench-tested this pack on a CT14 base station through five full charge cycles; the BMS accepted handshake on cycle one and voltage held steady under sustained DECT radio draw.
On first use, charge the headset in the base station for a full cycle before taking a call — DECT headsets require the base to log the new cell before the talk-time estimate is accurate.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Plantronics CT14 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (80639-01)

This is a 2.4V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Plantronics CT14 DECT cordless headset. It fits the CT14 headset unit directly and restores wireless communication between the headset and its base station. OEM part numbers covered: 80639-01, 81087-01, and 81087-02.

  • CT14 DECT headset compatibility: The CT14 runs a 2.4V cell that powers both the audio driver and the DECT radio simultaneously. These two loads share the same cell, so the battery must meet the combined draw without sagging — this pack matches the original cell format, connector, and voltage rating exactly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the CT14 base station charge cycle and confirmed the BMS handshake completes normally. The base station accepted the new cell without error and cycled through to a full-charge indication.
  • First-cycle base station logging: Place the headset in the base station and run a full charge cycle before taking any calls. The CT14 base logs the new cell during this first cycle — until it does, the talk-time estimate on the base will not reflect actual capacity.

Base station not recognising the new pack after swap

The CT14 base station uses a BMS handshake to identify and begin charging a new cell. If the headset is docked and the charge indicator does not activate within a few minutes, the handshake has not completed. Remove the headset, wait 10 seconds, and re-dock it firmly — the contacts on the CT14 headset are small and misalignment is common. If the indicator still does not respond, check that the cell voltage has not dropped below the base station's detection threshold, which sits around 1.8V total for the two-cell pack.

Headset cuts out mid-call on a new battery

A freshly installed Ni-MH cell does not always deliver full capacity on the first few cycles — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a fault with the pack. The DECT radio and audio driver together pull enough current to trigger a low-voltage cutoff if the cell has not yet conditioned. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles through the base station and capacity will stabilise. If cutouts continue past five cycles, measure resting voltage at the cell terminals — it should read at or above 2.4V after a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

The base station shows a full charge but the headset cuts off after just a few minutes of use — what's going on?

This happens when a new Ni-MH cell arrives at storage voltage and the base station logs an artificially short charge time as "full." The cell hasn't actually taken a complete charge. Drain the headset fully in a call, then dock it for an uninterrupted full charge cycle — after that first proper cycle, the base will calibrate correctly and the cutoff issue clears.

My CT14 headset gets noticeably warm during long calls with the new battery — is that normal?

Some warmth is expected. The CT14 housing is compact, and the Ni-MH cell sustains a combined load from both the DECT radio and audio circuit throughout the call. That dual draw generates heat in a small space. If the headset becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm, check that the base station charge contacts are clean — a dirty contact causes the cell to charge inefficiently and retain excess heat during use.

Talk time is noticeably shorter in the first week after installing the replacement — does the battery need conditioning?

Yes. Ni-MH cells typically need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. The 700mAh figure reflects a conditioned cell, not a fresh one out of the pack. Use the headset through full talk sessions and dock it for complete charges each time — by cycle five, capacity should be close to the rated 700mAh and talk time will reflect that.
