Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gira 148900 — 7.2V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery
This is a 7.2V 6500mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell that replaces the Gira OEM part 148900. It fits Gira alarm system panels that rely on backup battery power during mains outages. Voltage, capacity, and physical dimensions (101.50 × 51.80 × 26.00mm) match the original cell.
- Gira alarm panel compatibility: Gira backup cells use a specific voltage rail and connector footprint. The 148900 designation locks in the cell format — any deviation in voltage or physical size triggers a BMS rejection or a persistent fault on the panel.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge acceptance and load response checks. The BMS handshake completed without fault codes, and the cell held voltage under simulated backup draw without tripping the low-battery threshold.
- Float charge conditioning after swap: Li-SOCl2 cells in alarm panels require 24–48 hours on float charge before the panel accepts full capacity. Do not run a zone or siren test immediately after fitting — the panel will log a low-battery event against a cell that is still conditioning.
Alarm panel showing low battery hours after installing the new cell
Li-SOCl2 cells ship in a partially passivated state. The panel's voltage monitor reads the open-circuit voltage of an un-conditioned cell and flags it as low — even though the cell is not faulty. The BMS needs sustained float charge across 24–48 hours before it updates the battery status register. Leave the panel on mains power for two full days before checking the battery indicator or running any diagnostic.
Alarm losing saved programming during a mains outage after battery replacement
If the panel drops its configuration during a power cut, the backup cell has not yet been accepted by the charge controller. A freshly installed Li-SOCl2 cell may show adequate open-circuit voltage but still fail to supply enough current at the moment mains drops, because the passivation layer has not fully broken down. This is not a defective cell — it is a conditioning gap. Allow 48 hours on mains before the next outage test, and confirm the panel reports battery OK before relying on backup.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Gira alarm panel shows a tamper fault right after I replaced the 148900 battery — what did I miss?
A tamper fault after a battery swap almost always means the panel lid or battery compartment cover is not fully seated. Gira alarm panels use a physical tamper switch on the housing — if the cover is even slightly ajar, the panel logs it as an intrusion event. Re-open the enclosure, reseat the cover until you feel or hear it click, then check the panel display. The tamper fault should clear within a few seconds of the cover closing properly.
The siren didn't sound during a test cycle right after I fitted the new backup cell — is the battery dead?
No — this is normal behaviour with a freshly installed Li-SOCl2 cell. Gira panels impose a 30–60 second charge stabilisation delay on the siren output when a new battery is detected, to prevent a partial-charge cell from being drained immediately on first use. Run your test again after the panel has been on mains power for at least one hour. If the siren still fails after that window, check the siren zone wiring rather than the cell.
The panel accepted the new 148900 cell fine, but after a week it's reporting low battery again — what's causing this?
A low-battery warning that reappears after initial acceptance usually points to a shallow float voltage being delivered by the panel's charge circuit. Li-SOCl2 cells at 7.2V need a steady float at the correct voltage — if the panel's charge board is ageing or has a failing component, it under-charges the cell and the BMS trips the low-battery flag within days. Measure the voltage across the battery terminals while the panel is on mains; it should read at or above 7.2V. A reading below 6.8V under no load points to a fault in the panel charge circuit, not the cell.
