Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Qolsys IQ Panel — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (QR0018-840)

This 7.4V, 2600mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the internal backup battery in the Qolsys IQ Panel wireless security control panel. It keeps the panel powered during mains outages so arming, disarming, and alarm triggering continue without interruption. Matches OEM part numbers QR0018-840, IM198, and 4T054-01.

  • IQ Panel backup power rail: The IQ Panel runs its processor, Z-Wave radio, and cellular communicator from the same 7.4V battery bus. A degraded cell drops voltage under that combined load first — the panel reports low battery before the cell is fully flat. This replacement cell matches the bus voltage and connector pinout exactly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the IQ Panel platform. The onboard BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and completed a full charge cycle. Current draw during alarm trigger was stable with no voltage sag tripping the low-battery flag.
  • Post-swap conditioning for IQ Panel: Do not run a zone test immediately after installation. Allow the new cell to reach full float charge — typically 24 to 48 hours on mains power — before running any diagnostic. Testing too early may cause the panel to report a low-battery trouble condition even though the cell is good.

Why the IQ Panel still shows low battery after you install a new cell

The IQ Panel samples backup battery voltage under load at timed intervals, not continuously. Immediately after installation, a new Li-Polymer cell sits below its resting charge voltage because it has not yet completed a full float charge on the panel's internal charger circuit. The panel interprets this as a low-battery condition and logs a trouble event. Leave the panel on mains power for 24 to 48 hours — the trouble flag clears automatically once the cell reaches approximately 8.2V fully charged.

Alarm programming lost during a power outage after battery replacement

If the panel loses user codes or zone programming during a mains outage shortly after a battery swap, the new cell had not yet been accepted into the panel's power management cycle. The IQ Panel requires the backup battery to hold above a minimum threshold voltage to sustain SRAM during outage — a partially charged new cell may fall below that threshold under even brief load. Restore mains power, allow 48 hours of continuous charging, then confirm the cell voltage reads above 7.8V before testing outage behaviour again.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IQ Panel is showing a low battery trouble light but I just put a brand new battery in — what's wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The IQ Panel checks battery voltage under load on a timed cycle, and a freshly installed Li-Polymer cell hasn't yet reached full float charge on the panel's internal charger. Leave the panel connected to mains power for 24 to 48 hours without triggering any tests. The trouble light clears automatically once the cell charges to approximately 8.2V.

The siren didn't sound when I ran a test right after swapping the backup battery — is the battery faulty?

The battery is not faulty. On the IQ Panel, the siren draws a sharp current spike that the BMS will suppress if the cell hasn't stabilised after installation. There is also a built-in 30 to 60 second charge-stabilisation delay before full siren output is available from a new cell. Wait at least 48 hours on mains power after the swap, then re-run the alarm test. If the siren still doesn't sound after that window, check the siren tamper zone in the panel's diagnostic menu.

The panel lost all my user codes and zone settings during a power cut — can the battery cause this?

Yes. The IQ Panel uses the backup battery to hold SRAM content during a mains outage. If the new cell was installed less than 48 hours before the outage, it may not have charged enough to sustain memory under load. A cell below roughly 7.8V under load cannot hold the SRAM rail long enough to preserve programming. Restore mains power, allow a full 48-hour charge cycle, and confirm the battery voltage reads above 7.8V before the next outage test.
