Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AEG ARE H5 / AREH5-1 RFID Reader — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (70178)
This is a 7.4V, 800mAh Li-ion battery for the AEG ARE H5 laser distance meter and AREH5-1 RFID Reader. Both instruments run on the same OEM part 70178 battery pack, sharing an identical voltage rail and connector footprint. Capacity is 800mAh (5.92Wh), matched to the original specification.
- ARE H5 and AREH5-1 platform fit: Both models draw from the same 7.4V rail and use the same BMS handshake protocol. The connector orientation and latch geometry are identical across both units, so one replacement pack covers either instrument without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge-discharge cycles on the ARE H5 platform and monitored BMS behaviour under sustained sensor load. The protection circuit held within spec during measurement logging sessions without tripping on normal draw.
- First-use calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The ARE H5 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery indicator to fire early on the first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.
BMS lockout after the ARE H5 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge over time, and if the pack drops below roughly 2.5V per cell (5.0V total), the BMS enters a protective lockout state. In this condition the instrument shows no response — no boot screen, no charge indicator. Standard chargers will not re-engage the pack because the BMS blocks current below the recovery threshold. To recover it, use a charger with a trickle or recovery mode that applies a low current to bring the pack back above the BMS recovery voltage, typically around 6.0V, before switching to normal charge.
ARE H5 shuts off during USB data transfer to PC
USB data transfer activates the instrument's communication module simultaneously with the active display and measurement circuit — combined draw spikes briefly above what a degraded or partially charged cell can sustain. The BMS interprets the voltage sag as an undervoltage condition and cuts output to protect the cells. This is not a firmware fault. Charge the pack fully before any transfer session and confirm the cell rests at 8.4V off-charger before connecting via USB.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ARE H5 won't respond at all after sitting in the van for three months — is the battery dead?
The pack is likely in BMS lockout from deep self-discharge, not permanently dead. When cells drop below roughly 5.0V total, the protection circuit blocks all current in or out. A standard charger will show no activity because it won't engage a pack below its detection threshold. Use a charger with a recovery or trickle mode to bring the pack back above 6.0V, then switch to normal charging.
The ARE H5 readings keep resetting mid-logging session even though the battery indicator shows plenty of charge left.
This is a voltage dropout issue, not a capacity issue. Under sustained sensor load, a cell with degraded internal resistance sags below the instrument's operating floor for a moment — enough to reset the active logging session even if the displayed percentage looks healthy. The indicator reads resting voltage, not load voltage. Replace the pack and confirm it holds above 7.2V under load before relying on it for a full logging session.
My ARE H5 powers on fine but the battery percentage jumps around every time I restart the instrument.
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator recalibrates to the new cell's discharge curve on each boot until it has enough cycle data to map state accurately. This is normal for the first several charge-discharge cycles on a replacement pack. Run three full charge-discharge cycles through normal field use, then perform a calibration cycle through the instrument menu — the percentage display will stabilise after that.
