Fits Airbus THR9, THR9i, THR9 C-30, and THR9 Ex radios; replaces OEM BLN-5i and BLN-6 batteries.
3.7V Li-ion at 5200mAh delivers sustained transmit power on extended field shifts without voltage sag.
Gold contact connector slides straight into the battery slot; locking tab seats flush with a firm click.
We bench-tested on a THR9i dock—the BMS accepted charge immediately with no fault LED after insertion.
If the charger dock shows a fault light on first insertion, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Airbus THR9 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BLN-5i / BLN-6)

This is a 3.7V, 5200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Airbus THR9 family of professional portable transceivers. It fits the THR9, THR9i, THR9 C-30, and THR9 Ex. The BLN-5i and BLN-6 part numbers are interchangeable across this platform.

  • THR9 platform compatibility: The THR9, THR9i, C-30, and Ex variants share the same battery bay geometry, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol. All four accept the BLN-5i and BLN-6 packs without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge cycles and PTT transmit loads on a THR9 dock. The BMS handled transmit current spikes without tripping and accepted the charger handshake on first insertion.
  • Contact strip check on first dock insertion: If the THR9 charger shows a fault LED on the first seat, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

THR9 transmit current spike and BMS overcurrent cutoff

When PTT is pressed on the THR9, transmit current draws spike sharply — far above idle draw. A new pack at storage voltage sits near 3.6V, which is lower than a fully charged cell. At that voltage, the BMS has less headroom before it reads the spike as an overcurrent event and cuts the output. Charging to full before the first operational shift eliminates this risk. A fully charged BLN-5i holds approximately 4.2V at rest.

THR9 bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new pack

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V — not at full charge. The THR9 reads voltage at set thresholds and maps that to a bar count, so a pack at storage voltage displays one bar low from the moment it is inserted. This is not a capacity fault or a cell defect. Run one full charge cycle through the dock until the charger LED goes green, and the bar count will reflect the actual 5200mAh capacity correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My THR9 cuts out completely the moment I press PTT on a brand-new battery — what's happening?

A new pack at storage voltage sits around 3.6V, and the transmit current spike on PTT pushes the BMS close to its overcurrent threshold. At lower state of charge, the BMS has less room to absorb that spike and shuts output to protect the cells. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the pack fully to 4.2V before first use and the BMS will handle the transmit spike without tripping.

The THR9 drops from full TX power to reduced output mid-shift even though the battery indicator still shows bars — what causes that?

Sustained RF output pulls more current than standby, and under that continuous load the cell voltage sags below the threshold the THR9 uses to maintain full transmit power. The bar indicator is a resting-voltage snapshot — it doesn't track voltage under load, so it can still show two or three bars while the working voltage has already sagged. Swap to a freshly charged pack and keep a second battery on the charger during long shifts to avoid hitting this point.

The THR9 charger dock fault LED never clears after I insert the replacement BLN-5i — the battery came straight out of the box. Why?

Packs shipped in storage state can arrive below the voltage floor the THR9 dock requires before it will begin a charge cycle. The dock reads the pack as outside its acceptance window and holds the fault LED rather than starting charge. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and wait 60 seconds — a clean contact cycle lets the BMS negotiate with the dock. If the LED still does not clear, the resting cell voltage may need a brief recovery charge; place the pack in a compatible standalone Li-ion charger set to 3.7V until voltage climbs above 3.5V, then return it to the THR9 dock.
