Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

AstralPool VX Salt Chlorinator Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (70313)
This 4.8V 700mAh Ni-MH battery powers the control circuits and timer functions in AstralPool VX Salt Chlorinator units. It fits the VX, VX 6T, VX 7T, VX 9T, and related models in the VX series. Capacity is 3.36Wh — matched to the original OEM specification.
- VX series control board compatibility: The VX, VX 6T, VX 7T, and VX 9T share the same control circuit architecture and draw the same low-level standby current from this cell pack. Voltage rail and connector footprint are consistent across these models, so one part number covers the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated timer-hold and chlorine output adjustment sequences. The BMS held voltage steady through standby mode transitions and did not drop below the control board's minimum threshold during wake cycles.
- Post-install chlorinator reset: After fitting this battery, run through the VX menu to re-enter your chlorine output percentage and timer schedule — these settings are held in memory backed by this cell, so a flat original battery may have wiped them. Confirm the clock is accurate before leaving the unit unattended.
Why the VX chlorinator loses its schedule after the battery dies
The VX control board uses this Ni-MH pack as its memory-backup and real-time clock power source. When the cell drops below roughly 4.0V under load, the board can no longer retain timer or output settings between power cycles. A fully degraded cell may appear to hold charge on the mains but will fail to sustain the clock the moment AC power is interrupted — even briefly. Replacing the battery restores memory retention, but you must re-enter any lost settings manually through the unit's display menu.
New battery installed but VX chlorinator still shows no output or ignores timer
This usually means the control board did not reinitialise properly after the swap. The VX firmware checks battery state on first boot; if the pack was stored unused and its resting voltage is below the board's recognition threshold, the unit may boot into a fault state. Hold the unit's reset sequence per the service manual — typically pressing and holding the function key for five seconds with mains power applied — to force a clean reinitialisation. After reset, confirm resting voltage at the battery terminals reads at least 4.6V before proceeding to reprogram your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VX chlorinator was working fine, then the power went out briefly and now it's running at full output all day — is this the battery?
Yes. The Ni-MH pack retains timer and output settings when mains power drops. If the cell has degraded below its hold voltage, even a short outage wipes the schedule and the board defaults to continuous or maximum output. Fit the replacement battery, restore mains power, and re-enter your chlorine percentage and timer windows through the VX menu.
The new battery is installed but the VX won't recognise it — the display shows a fault and the unit won't run.
This happens when the replacement pack has sat in storage and its resting voltage has dropped below the board's wake threshold. The control board sees the low voltage and flags a fault rather than attempting a charge cycle. Apply mains power for 30–45 minutes with the unit in standby to let the onboard charger bring the pack up, then perform a hard reset by holding the function key for five seconds. Resting voltage should read at least 4.6V before the board will clear the fault.
The VX chlorinator clock keeps drifting — it loses several minutes a day and the timer fires at the wrong time.
A degrading Ni-MH cell with reduced capacity can no longer sustain the real-time clock circuit at stable voltage over a full 24-hour cycle, causing the clock to drift as voltage sags overnight. This gets worse as the cell ages because capacity loss is non-linear — the final 20% of cycle life drops off quickly. Replace the battery and confirm after 48 hours that the clock has not drifted by more than one minute; if drift continues, check that the terminal connections are seated fully and measure voltage at the connector, which should read between 4.6V and 5.0V at rest.
