Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AudioVox TDM-2500 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (VBT-P1)
This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the AudioVox TDM-2500 and TDM-2500XL mobile handsets. It matches the original VBT-P1 specification, including connector and cell chemistry. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge or fails to power the handset.
- TDM-2500 and TDM-2500XL fit: Both models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and 3.6V Ni-MH chemistry requirement, so one cell covers both handsets without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the TDM-2500 platform. The charge IC accepted the cell on the first cycle, and voltage held steady across a full discharge without premature cutoff.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After fitting this cell, run one complete discharge down to automatic shutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. The handset's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — this single full cycle resets that reference so percentage readings stay accurate.
Why the TDM-2500 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The TDM-2500 uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks cell capacity by learning the discharge curve of the installed battery over time. When you replace the cell, the IC still references the old curve. This mismatch causes the displayed percentage to read high or jump erratically, especially in the lower half of the charge range. One full discharge-to-shutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the IC to rebuild its reference against the new cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement Ni-MH cell
Ni-MH cells have a steeper voltage drop-off than Li-ion as they approach depletion. Under modem or display load on the TDM-2500, the cell voltage can sag below the handset's cutoff threshold while the fuel gauge still reads 20–30% remaining. This is a calibration lag, not a faulty cell. After two full discharge-charge cycles, the gauge IC catches up to the actual discharge curve and shutdowns at low percentage stop. If the problem persists past three cycles, check that the battery contact pins inside the bay are clean and making firm contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
The TDM-2500 percentage jumps around after I put in the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC on the TDM-2500 was calibrated to the old battery's discharge curve and now has no accurate reference for the new one. Run one complete discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single cycle gives the IC enough data to rebuild its curve, and erratic readings settle out.
My TDM-2500 shuts off suddenly when the screen shows it still has charge left — how do I fix this?
This is a voltage sag issue specific to Ni-MH chemistry. Under screen or call load, the cell voltage drops sharply near depletion, hitting the handset's cutoff before the fuel gauge catches up. It happens most in the first two cycles on a new cell. After two full discharge-charge cycles the gauge recalibrates, and the shutoffs stop occurring above 10%.
The TDM-2500 won't turn on after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — what happened?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge faster than Li-ion and can drop below the BMS recovery threshold after extended storage. Connect the handset to the charger and leave it undisturbed for at least 60 minutes before attempting to power on — the charge IC needs time to push enough current into a deeply discharged cell to bring it above the minimum startup voltage of approximately 3.0V before the handset will boot.
