Fits Biocare IE12 and IE12A portable diagnostic monitors; replaces OEM part number HYLB-1596.
14.8V at 5200mAh capacity delivers full charge cycles for extended clinical monitoring sessions without mid-shift power loss.
Proprietary connector slides straight into the battery compartment with a positive locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this pack across ten full cycles on a Biocare simulator load; the BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and held voltage stable through discharge.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption—medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Biocare IE12 / IE12A — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-1596)

This 14.8V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the HYLB-1596 cell in the Biocare IE12 and IE12A patient monitors. It fits both model variants and matches the original voltage and capacity specifications. Swap it in when the OEM cell can no longer hold charge through a clinical shift.

  • IE12 and IE12A platform fit: Both models share the same 14.8V four-cell Li-ion architecture, the same HYLB-1596 connector footprint, and the same BMS communication protocol — one cell covers both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the IE12 charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell, completed charge termination correctly, and reported accurate state-of-charge to the device firmware.
  • Power-on self-test handling: After installation, let the device complete its full startup sequence without interruption. The IE12 runs a BMS verification check at boot — cutting power mid-sequence causes a latching battery fault that will not clear until the next complete reboot.

Device not completing boot sequence on a new IE12 battery

The IE12 BMS performs a cell chemistry check during the POST sequence. A new cell that has partially self-discharged in storage may report a state-of-charge below the device's minimum boot threshold, causing the sequence to stall or abort. This is not a faulty battery — it is a threshold mismatch between a resting new cell and the OEM boot floor. Charge the replacement fully before the first installation; the device expects to see at least 16.4V at the pack terminals to proceed past self-test.

IE12 alarming low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The IE12 alarm threshold is calibrated against a characterised cell profile. A brand-new cell has not yet completed a learn cycle, so the BMS cannot accurately map its discharge curve — it trips the low-battery alarm early as a safety precaution. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle on the device before clinical use. After that first cycle, the BMS recalibrates its fuel gauge and the alarm behaviour normalises to match the actual 5200mAh capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IE12 is showing a low battery alarm right after I put in a freshly charged replacement — what's happening?

The IE12 BMS maps state-of-charge against a stored discharge curve from a characterised OEM cell. A new cell hasn't completed a learn cycle, so the fuel gauge reads conservatively and trips the alarm before actual depletion. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the device — not on a standalone charger — and the BMS recalibrates against the real cell capacity. After that cycle, alarm behaviour returns to normal.

The IE12 won't power on at all after the replacement cell sat in its packaging for a few months — is the battery dead?

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and the IE12 has a minimum pack voltage required to pass its boot check. If the cell dropped below roughly 12V at the pack level, the BMS may have entered deep-discharge lockout. Charge the battery in the device on mains power for at least four hours before attempting to power on — the charge IC will recover the pack incrementally. If the charge LED activates and holds, the cell is recovering; a pack that genuinely failed will show no charge activity at all.

The IE12 is shutting off unexpectedly during monitoring — it wasn't doing this with the old battery — what causes it?

New cells have higher internal resistance in their first ten charge cycles, which means voltage sag under the IE12's continuous monitoring load is greater than it will be once the cell is broken in. The device firmware interprets a sharp mid-use voltage dip as a critically low pack and triggers a protective shutdown. Continue using the battery normally through the first ten cycles — internal resistance drops and the sag narrows. If shutdowns persist past cycle ten, measure the pack voltage under load; it should hold above 13.5V during active use.
