Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Carewell ECG-1101 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (88889089)
This 12V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces part number 88889089 in the Carewell ECG-1101, ECG-1101G, and ECG-1101B portable electrocardiogram monitors. These handheld devices are used for cardiac rhythm monitoring in clinical and home settings. Voltage, connector, and BMS handshake match the original specification.
- ECG-1101, ECG-1101G, and ECG-1101B compatibility: All three variants share the same 12V power rail, physical form factor, and BMS communication protocol, which is why a single cell supports the full model range. The connector pinout and charge IC signalling are identical across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the ECG-1101 platform. The BMS accepted the new cell on first insertion, completed its verification handshake, and held voltage within tolerance across the full discharge curve.
- Power-on self-test after installation: Once installed, let the device run its full startup self-test without interruption. The ECG-1101 runs a BMS verification sequence at boot — cutting power mid-sequence logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.
Why the ECG-1101 flags a battery fault on a fully charged new cell
The ECG-1101's BMS uses a learned chemistry profile to validate cell state at startup. A new Ni-MH cell has not yet established the charge/discharge curve the BMS expects from a conditioned cell. Until one full charge-discharge cycle is complete, the BMS may flag a fault or show a lower-than-expected state of charge. Run one complete cycle before relying on the battery for clinical monitoring.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge
On first charge, the ECG-1101's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell. This causes the indicator to plateau below 100% and sometimes stop advancing entirely. This is a charge IC behaviour, not a cell fault. Run the device down to automatic cutoff, then charge uninterrupted — the second charge cycle typically reaches full capacity and registers correctly on the display.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ECG-1101 shows a low battery alarm immediately after a confirmed full charge on a new replacement — is the cell faulty?
The ECG-1101 BMS sets its low-battery threshold against a learned OEM chemistry profile, and a new Ni-MH cell hasn't completed that learning cycle yet. Until the BMS has logged one full charge-discharge pass, it reads state of charge conservatively and triggers the alarm early. Run one complete discharge to automatic cutoff, then charge fully — after that cycle the BMS recalibrates its threshold to the new cell. The alarm should clear once the battery reads above the 12.0V nominal floor on the second cycle.
The ECG-1101 won't power on after the replacement battery sat in the box for several months before installation.
Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage — at moderate room temperature, capacity loss of 20–30% over a few months is normal. If the cell dropped below the BMS recovery threshold (typically around 10V on a 12V Ni-MH pack), the BMS locks out power-on to protect the cell from an uncontrolled load draw. Connect the device to mains charge without attempting to power it on, and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge cycle. Once voltage recovers above the BMS floor, the power-on sequence will complete normally.
The ECG-1101 shuts off unexpectedly mid-recording during the first few uses with the new battery — what's causing this?
Medical-grade ECG devices draw a sharper, more variable load during active recording than during standby — the acquisition circuitry, display, and transmission stack all pull simultaneously. In the first ten cycles, a fresh Ni-MH cell has higher internal resistance, which causes voltage to sag under that combined load and trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff. This is not a defective cell — internal resistance drops as the cell conditions through use. Continue normal charge cycles and the cutoffs will become less frequent; most cells stabilise within five to eight full cycles.
