Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Digital Ally DVM-500PL Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (135-0036)

This is a 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the Digital Ally DVM-500PL in-vehicle camera system, cross-referenced to OEM part number 135-0036. It also fits the DVM-750, DV-500ULTRA, and DVB-500 units. All four models share the same voltage rail, physical footprint, and connector pinout.

  • DVM-500PL, DVM-750, DV-500ULTRA, DVB-500 platform: These units use the same 3.7V cell format and BMS handshake across the line. The shared connector and protection circuit spec means one cell covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge passes on the DVM-500PL platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and protection cutoffs triggered correctly at both ends of the charge curve.
  • First-install charge cycle on the DVM-500PL: Run the first full charge through the camera unit itself, not an external charger. The DVM-500PL's onboard BMS maps the new cell's discharge curve during that initial cycle — skipping it can cause the battery indicator to read inaccurately for the first several sessions.

Why the DVM-500PL battery indicator reads full then drops suddenly

The DVM-500PL uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate charge level rather than coulomb counting. A new Li-ion cell has a slightly different discharge curve than a worn original, so the camera's fixed voltage thresholds don't map cleanly on the first few cycles. The indicator can sit at full until the cell crosses a threshold, then jump several bars at once. After two or three full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body, the readings stabilise.

DVM-500PL showing no battery detected after cell replacement

This happens when the BMS hasn't completed an initialisation handshake with the new cell. The fix is a full charge cycle via the camera's own charging port — not an external bay charger. Once the internal BMS completes that cycle, the camera registers the cell correctly. If the no-detection message persists after one full charge, confirm the cell is seated flush and the connector tab is making clean contact at all three pins.

Frequently Asked Questions

The DVM-500PL battery percentage jumps around erratically after I installed the replacement — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The DVM-500PL maps battery level using fixed voltage thresholds, and a fresh Li-ion cell has a flatter discharge curve than a degraded original, so the thresholds don't land where the camera expects them to. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles entirely through the camera body and the readings will track correctly. If the jumping continues past three cycles, check that the replacement cell matches the 3.7V spec.

The DVM-500PL stops recording mid-shift even though the battery showed charge remaining — what causes that?

The camera's BMS triggers a low-voltage cutoff to protect the cell, and it does so based on voltage rather than a displayed percentage. If the indicator was miscalibrated from a skipped first-cycle initialisation, the cutoff can fire while the display still shows partial charge. Resolve this by running the first full charge and discharge through the camera unit, which lets the BMS recalibrate its cutoff thresholds against the new cell's actual voltage curve. After that cycle, the cutoff point will align with what the indicator displays.

Can I use an external charger bay with this battery instead of charging it inside the DVM-500PL?

External chargers will charge the cell to the correct voltage, but they bypass the DVM-500PL's onboard BMS initialisation sequence. That sequence is what teaches the camera how to read this specific cell's discharge curve. Charge the replacement cell inside the camera body for at least the first full cycle — plug in via the camera's charging port and let it run to 4.2V — before using an external bay for convenience charging afterward.
