Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Diquea EP8100 / EP8000 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 7.4V, 2400mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Diquea EP8100 and EP8000 portable two-way radios. It uses the same cell configuration and BMS voltage thresholds as the factory pack. Capacity is 2400mAh (17.76Wh) as specified by the product data.
- EP8100 and EP8000 platform: Both models run the same 7.4V dual-cell architecture with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol, which is why one pack covers both. Swapping between them requires no modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated PTT transmit events to confirm the BMS handles the current spike at key-up without tripping into overcurrent lockout. Cell voltage held within spec across the full discharge curve.
- First insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The EP8100 dock requires a clean contact cycle to recognise the new BMS handshake before it will begin charging.
Why the EP8100 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery
New cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, or 7.4V combined — not at full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply. If the pack hasn't been fully charged first, the cells sag under that load and the BMS interprets the voltage drop as an unsafe discharge event, cutting the radio mid-transmission. A full charge cycle before first use brings both cells to 4.2V each, giving the BMS enough headroom to absorb the transmit spike without triggering a cutoff.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after installation
The EP8100 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a fuel gauge reading. A new pack at storage voltage sits at the lower threshold of the indicator scale, so the radio displays one or even two bars fewer than a fully charged pack. This is not a fault with the battery. Charge the pack fully in the dock until the indicator goes solid green, then reinsert into the radio — the bar display will reflect the correct charge level at or above 8.2V combined cell voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions
My EP8100 dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging — what's happening?
The dock rejects packs that arrive below its acceptance voltage threshold, which is common with new cells shipped at storage voltage. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly to ensure the BMS handshake completes. If the fault LED persists, place the pack in a known-good charger or use a compatible desk charger that accepts a wider input voltage range. Once the cell voltage climbs above the dock's acceptance floor — typically around 7.2V — the dock will begin a normal charge cycle.
The radio drops to noticeably weaker transmit power after a few hours of use — is the battery failing?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a defective cell. As the pack discharges toward the lower voltage threshold, the radio's power management circuit reduces TX output to stay within safe operating voltage. It's a protection function, not a battery fault. To push this threshold back, keep the pack charged above 50% during heavy-use shifts — at or above 7.8V combined — and avoid running the pack to the final bar before recharging.
The battery sat unused in a drawer for several months and now the radio won't power on at all — is it dead?
Extended storage causes lithium-ion cells to self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold, and the BMS will lock out to prevent damage. The radio won't power on because the pack voltage is too low for the BMS to engage. Place the pack in the charger dock for at least 30 minutes — many chargers apply a low-current recovery pulse to bring the cell voltage back above the lockout floor, typically 6.0V combined. If the dock accepts the pack and begins charging, leave it on a full cycle; the battery is recoverable.
