Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dopod 838 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WIZA16)
This 3.7V 2800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original WIZA16 battery in the Dopod 838 Windows Mobile smartphone. Capacity is restored when the original cell has degraded through repeated charge cycles. It fits the 838 directly using the original battery bay and connector.
- Dopod 838 fitment: The 838 uses a single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V nominal with the WIZA16 connector and contact layout. This cell matches that voltage rail so the phone's charge IC and power management unit see a compatible source without throwing a handshake error.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a mid-2000s Windows Mobile platform. The BMS held cutoff correctly at both the low-voltage floor and the 4.2V charge ceiling, and the charge IC accepted the cell without fault flags.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installing a new cell, disable any fast or turbo charging mode and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. The Dopod 838's fuel gauge IC uses coulomb counting calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — one full cycle lets it relearn the new cell before applying higher charge current.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Dopod 838 after cell replacement
The Dopod 838 shuts down mid-use despite the percentage showing 20–30% remaining because the fuel gauge IC is still reading from the old cell's discharge curve. A new cell has a steeper voltage cliff at low charge states. Under modem activity or screen load, the cell voltage drops sharply, hitting the hardware cutoff before the gauge catches up. Run two full discharge-charge cycles at standard rate to let the coulomb counter recalibrate to the new cell curve.
Device will not power on after sitting in storage with a depleted battery
If the Dopod 838 has been stored for months with a flat battery, the cell voltage may have dropped below 2.5V, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent cell damage. The phone will show no response — no charging indicator, no boot. Connect it to a wall charger at 5V and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button; the BMS pre-charge circuit will trickle current into the cell until it reaches the recovery threshold, typically around 2.9V, before standard charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dopod 838 keeps showing the wrong battery percentage after I put in the new cell — it jumps around and never looks accurate. What's wrong?
The fuel gauge IC in the 838 was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original worn cell, not the new one. After a cell swap, the coulomb counter is reading against the wrong reference and will report erratic or shifted percentages. Run two complete discharge-charge cycles — drain the phone to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — without interrupting either phase. After that, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates its reference points and percentage readings stabilise.
The phone feels warm near the battery during the first few charges on the new cell. Is that a fault?
A new high-impedance cell presents more resistance to the charge IC than a broken-in cell does. The 838's charge controller pushes current into that higher impedance, and the extra resistive loss comes out as heat. This is most noticeable in the first three to five charge cycles as the cell's internal resistance drops toward its rated value. If warmth continues beyond five cycles or the phone becomes hot to the touch, check that the battery contacts are clean and fully seated — a poor connection raises resistance further and increases heat at the contact point.
After replacing the battery, the Dopod 838 won't charge at all — the charging indicator never appears. What should I check first?
The most common cause is the replacement cell sitting at a voltage below the BMS activation threshold, either from storage or a deep discharge before installation. Connect the phone to a wall charger and leave it untouched for at least 30 minutes — the BMS pre-charge circuit needs time to bring the cell up from below 2.9V before the main charge stage kicks in and the indicator appears. If there is still no response after 30 minutes, reseat the battery to confirm the three contact pads are making firm contact with the phone's connector, then reconnect the charger.
