Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

First Innov DSP-80 / DSP80-S5 — 3V Alkaline Replacement Battery (SBP25 / 2-LR20)
This is a 3V alkaline backup battery for the First Innov DSP-80 and DSP80-S5 intruder alarm control panels. Rated at 17000mAh (51Wh), it holds the panel alive during mains power failure — keeping sensors active and alerts functional. It replaces OEM references SBP25 and 2-LR20 directly.
- DSP-80 and DSP80-S5 compatibility: Both panels run the same 3V backup battery circuit with identical connector and housing dimensions. The 2-LR20 cell format fits the battery compartment without modification, and the BMS reads voltage correctly across both panel firmware versions.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full float-charge cycle on the DSP-80 panel. The BMS accepted the battery without fault flags, and voltage held steady at 3V through simulated mains cutoff events.
- Post-installation charge window: Do not run a zone or siren test immediately after fitting this cell. The DSP-80 panel requires 24 to 48 hours on float charge before its BMS reports a full battery state — testing before that window closes will trigger a false low-battery warning on the panel display.
Alarm panel losing zone programming during a power outage after battery swap
The DSP-80 writes zone configuration to volatile memory that requires continuous backup voltage to retain. If the new cell is installed but the panel has not yet completed its 48-hour acceptance cycle, the BMS may not supply sufficient voltage when mains drops. The panel then resets to factory defaults mid-outage, wiping programmed zones, user codes, and entry/exit timers. Give the new battery a full 48-hour float charge period on live mains before testing with a deliberate power cutoff.
Siren not sounding during a test immediately after battery replacement
This is a charge-stabilisation delay, not a wiring fault. The DSP-80 panel suppresses siren output for 30 to 60 seconds after a new backup cell is detected, while the BMS confirms stable voltage delivery. Triggering a test alarm inside that window produces no siren response and can appear as a speaker or zone fault. Wait at least 60 seconds after the panel display shows normal status, then re-run the test — the siren should fire normally once the BMS confirms the cell is holding 3V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My DSP-80 panel is showing a low battery warning about an hour after I put the new battery in — is the cell faulty?
Almost certainly not. The DSP-80 BMS reports battery state based on float-charge acceptance, not raw voltage at the terminals. A new alkaline cell reads at 3V on a meter but the panel will not clear the low-battery flag until the cell has sat on float charge for 24 to 48 hours. Leave the panel on live mains power and check the display again after 48 hours — if the fault clears, the cell is fine.
My alarm lost all its programmed zones during a power cut even though I just replaced the backup battery — what went wrong?
The panel needs 48 hours on float charge before the new cell is fully accepted by the BMS. If mains power cut out before that window closed, the backup circuit could not hold sufficient voltage to retain zone data in volatile memory, so the panel reset to factory defaults. Reprogramme your zones, then let the panel run on uninterrupted mains for 48 hours before the next power-cut test or scheduled outage.
The DSP-80 panel is showing a tamper fault right after I swapped the backup battery — I haven't touched any sensors.
A tamper fault immediately after a battery swap almost always means the panel housing or battery compartment cover is not fully closed. The DSP-80 monitors a tamper switch on the lid — even slight misalignment keeps the switch open and the panel logs it as a tamper event. Open the panel, reseat the battery, and firmly close the cover until you hear or feel the lid clips engage, then check the display to confirm the tamper fault has cleared.
