Fits Hitachi DZ-MV200A camcorder; replaces OEM DZ-BP16 battery pack.
Voltage measures 7.4V at 2200mAh capacity; sustains video recording and playback across full recording session.
Connector slides straight into camcorder battery slot with positive terminal forward and locking tab seated.
Bench testing showed BMS acceptance on first insertion; voltage held steady through discharge curve without early cutoff.
On first use, run one full charge cycle in the camera body before extended video shooting — the Hitachi BMS maps battery-remaining display during this cycle and may show inaccurate percentage until complete.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hitachi DZ-MV200A Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DZ-BP16)

This is a 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion replacement for the Hitachi DZ-BP16 battery pack. It fits the DZ-MV200A, DZ-MV200E, DZ-MV208E, and DZ-MV230A DVD camcorders, along with four additional models in the same series. The cell matches the original voltage rail and connector footprint so it seats and latches without modification.

  • DZ-MV series compatibility: These camcorders share a common battery bay and BMS handshake across the MV200 and MV230 lines. The 7.4V two-cell Li-ion configuration is consistent across the entire series, which is why one pack covers multiple models without any adaptation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the DZ-MV platform. The BMS accepted the pack on first insertion, reported charge state correctly, and held voltage within the expected window across the full discharge curve.
  • First-cycle conditioning on DVD camcorders: The DZ-MV series writes session data to disc during recording — an interrupted power cut mid-write can corrupt the disc. Perform one full charge cycle in the camera body before your first recording session so the BMS calibrates its low-battery warning threshold accurately.

Why the DZ-MV200A shows a dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement

The DZ-MV200A maps its battery indicator to voltage thresholds set during BMS calibration. A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve than a worn original, so the camera's fuel gauge can misread remaining charge on early cycles. The indicator may show one bar or flash red even when the cell still holds usable voltage. After two to three full charge and discharge cycles, the BMS recalibrates and the indicator stabilises to reflect actual charge state accurately.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the DZ-MV display

Erratic percentage jumps happen when the camera's voltage-to-percentage mapping doesn't yet match the new cell's discharge curve. The DZ-MV series uses a stepped indicator, and a fresh cell discharges more flatly at mid-range before dropping quickly near the end — the camera interprets that flat section inconsistently. This is not a faulty cell. Run the battery down to the camera's automatic shutoff point, then charge fully to 8.4V via the OEM charger or camera body. One to two full cycles corrects the mapping.

Frequently Asked Questions

The DZ-MV200A won't recognise the new battery at all — the screen stays blank and nothing powers on. What's wrong?

The DZ-MV series occasionally fails to initialise a new pack if the battery contacts have any residue or the cell voltage arrived slightly low from storage. Remove the battery, wipe both contact strips with a dry cloth, reinsert firmly, and connect the AC adaptor to begin a charge cycle directly in the camera body. This forces the BMS to handshake with the new cell rather than rely on a cold-start voltage reading. If the camera still doesn't respond, charge the pack to at least 7.6V in the OEM charger before attempting another insertion.

Recording cuts out mid-session even though the battery indicator showed half charge remaining — is the cell faulty?

This is a voltage-sag issue, not a faulty cell. DVD camcorders draw a combined load from the lens motor, disc spin-up, and LCD simultaneously, and that burst load can pull cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold faster than the indicator updates. The camera shuts down to protect the disc write. Let the pack cool for two minutes, reinsert, and the camera should resume from the remaining charge. If this recurs consistently, reduce LCD brightness — it is the largest continuous draw on the DZ-MV platform and directly extends the point at which sag triggers the cutoff.

The replacement battery drains noticeably faster in cold conditions compared to indoors — is the capacity lower than rated?

It isn't a capacity defect. Li-ion cells lose available capacity as temperature drops because internal resistance rises, which compresses the usable voltage window before the BMS cutoff triggers. At temperatures below 10°C the DZ-MV200A will exhaust the pack sooner than at room temperature — this affects all Li-ion cells including the original Hitachi pack. Keep the spare battery in an inside jacket pocket between shots to hold it near body temperature, and insert it just before recording. Rated capacity of 2200mAh applies at 20–25°C.
