If your ProBook x360 no longer holds a charge or won't run unplugged, this cell restores portable operation.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement

The ProBook x360 435 G7 stores battery health metrics in EEPROM on the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the BIOS reads stale data from that cycle history and flags the replacement as degraded — even though the cell is new. This is not a fault with the replacement battery. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate then a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%. After two to three cycles, the BIOS learn cycle rewrites the health register and the warning clears.

ProBook x360 shutting down at 20–30% battery shown

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Under combined CPU and display load, the new cell hits a voltage point the IC misreads as near-empty, triggering an early shutdown. The fix is calibration: discharge fully to automatic hibernate, then charge to 100% without interruption. Repeat this two to three times. After calibration, the gauge tracks the new cell's actual voltage curve and the early shutdowns stop.

This is an EEPROM mismatch, not a faulty cell. Run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After two or three complete cycles the BIOS learn cycle writes new data and the status clears.

My fuel gauge jumps around wildly — it reads 60%, then drops to 15% a minute later. What's happening?

The fuel gauge IC is still mapped to the discharge curve of the old cell. Until it recalibrates against the new lithium-polymer chemistry, readings are unreliable. We see this consistently on the first two cycles in bench testing. Discharge the laptop fully to automatic hibernate twice and charge to 100% each time without interruption — after that the gauge stabilises and tracks the actual state of charge accurately.

Windows shows this battery as 41Wh but HP Support Assistant reports a different Wh rating — which is correct?

HP Support Assistant pulls the Wh figure from the cell's EEPROM, which can differ from the actual chemistry rating until the BIOS learn cycle updates it. The physical cell in this listing is rated 41Wh at 11.55V and 3550mAh — those figures are accurate. Run the battery through two full charge-discharge cycles and the reported Wh value in Support Assistant will align with the actual cell specification.
