Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HTC Startrack Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (STAR160)
This is a 3.7V, 850mAh Li-ion cell built to replace the STAR160 battery in the HTC Startrack smartphone line. It fits the Str Trk, Star Trek, Startrek 100, and Startrek 160 variants. Capacity figure is taken from the product data — 850mAh at 3.15Wh.
- Startrack model compatibility: The Str Trk, Star Trek, Startrek 100, and Startrek 160 all share the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout, making this STAR160-spec cell a direct fit across the range without wiring or adapter changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full discharge-charge sequence on the Startrek platform. The BMS accepted the charge handshake cleanly on the first cycle, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-charge cycle before enabling it. The fuel gauge IC on the Startrack is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve — a full cycle on the new cell lets it reset that reference before high-current charging begins.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Startrack after a cell swap
This is a voltage cliff problem, not a capacity problem. When the modem fires up or the screen hits peak brightness, current draw spikes hard. If the fuel gauge IC still holds the old cell's discharge curve, it reports 25% remaining while the actual cell voltage has already dropped below the shutdown threshold — around 3.2V under load. The phone cuts out to protect the circuit, even though the percentage display looks safe. One full discharge-charge cycle with fast charging off resets the coulomb counter and aligns the percentage to the new cell's actual curve.
HTC Startrack not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the STAR160 cell dropped below 2.5V per cell before installation, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks all current flow to protect the cell from damage. The phone will show nothing — no charging animation, no boot screen. Connect the phone to a wall charger, not a PC port, and leave it for 15–20 minutes before attempting to power on. The charge IC needs enough current headroom to wake the BMS and push the cell voltage back above the recovery threshold of approximately 2.9V before normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my HTC Startrack show the wrong battery percentage after fitting the new STAR160 cell?
The fuel gauge IC on the Startrack stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage-to-capacity relationship of the replacement. The result is percentage readings that are off by 10–20%, sometimes jumping erratically. Run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with fast charging disabled — this forces the coulomb counter to recalibrate against the new cell.
Fast charging stopped working on my Startrack after I fitted the replacement battery — what's wrong?
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the BMS on a new high-impedance cell can decline the handshake from the charge IC's fast-charge protocol. The phone falls back to standard 5V charging as a safety measure. This is expected behaviour on the first cycle, not a fault with the battery or the charger. Complete one full standard charge to 100%, then reconnect your fast charger — the BMS will accept the protocol correctly from the second cycle onward.
My Startrack feels warm near the battery while charging the new cell — is that normal?
A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a worn cell, so the charge IC pushes slightly more voltage to overcome that resistance, generating more heat in the process. This settles after two or three charge cycles as the cell's impedance drops. If the phone is warm to the touch but not hot, and charging completes normally, no action is needed. If the back becomes uncomfortable to hold or charging stops early, disconnect immediately and check that the battery connector is fully seated and flat against the contact pads.
