Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Qtek 8500 / 8500 Pink — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (STAR160)
This 3.7V 850mAh Li-ion cell replaces the STAR160 battery in the Qtek 8500 and 8500 Pink smartphones. Both devices share the same battery bay dimensions and connector, making this a direct cell match at 44.97 × 37.16 × 5.44mm. Capacity is 850mAh (3.15Wh) — identical to the original specification.
- 8500 and 8500 Pink compatibility: Both variants use the same battery housing, connector pinout, and charge IC handshake. The STAR160 part number covers the full model run without hardware modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, standby, and screen-on load. The BMS held voltage above the 3.0V cutoff under sustained screen draw and accepted charge termination cleanly at 4.2V.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, run one full discharge to automatic cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before normal use. The Qtek 8500's fuel gauge IC maps its coulomb counter to the new cell's discharge curve during this cycle — skipping it causes erratic percentage readings from the first hour.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Qtek 8500
This is a voltage-cliff failure, not a capacity failure. The Windows Mobile power manager on the 8500 uses a voltage threshold — not a true coulomb count — to estimate remaining charge. When the cell voltage sags under modem radio or screen load, it drops below the shutdown threshold even though the fuel gauge still reads 20–30%. A replacement cell showing this behaviour needs one full calibration cycle. Discharge to automatic cutoff, charge to 4.2V, and the fuel gauge IC will remap its threshold curve to the new cell.
Phone feels warm near the battery slot on the first few charges
A new high-impedance cell generates more heat during early charge cycles than a worn-in cell does. The charge IC on the Qtek 8500 does not throttle current based on cell impedance — it runs its standard CC/CV profile regardless. This warmth is normal for the first two or three cycles as internal resistance drops. If the device remains warm beyond the third full charge, check that the cell is seated flat with no gap at the contact plate — poor contact forces the charge IC to compensate with higher voltage, which increases heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Qtek 8500 showing a different battery percentage every time I check it after fitting the new cell?
The fuel gauge IC on the 8500 is still calibrated to the discharge curve of the old cell — it has no reference data for the new one. The coulomb counter reads voltage and makes a percentage estimate, but that estimate drifts badly until the IC recalibrates. Run one complete discharge to automatic cutoff followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 4.2V. After that single cycle, the percentage readout stabilises.
My Qtek 8500 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it.
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if this cell dropped below 2.5V per cell while sitting uninstalled, the BMS entered lockout mode to prevent damage. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC needs time to trickle current into the cell and lift voltage above the BMS re-enable threshold of approximately 2.9V. Once voltage recovers, the phone will power on normally.
The Qtek 8500 percentage jumps from 15% straight to 0% and shuts down — is the new battery faulty?
This is a fuel gauge IC issue, not a faulty cell. The 8500's power manager uses fixed voltage thresholds that were set against the original cell's discharge curve. The new cell has a slightly different voltage profile at low state of charge, so the threshold is crossed without warning. Complete one full calibration cycle — discharge to automatic cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 4.2V — and the IC will remap its low-voltage threshold to match the replacement cell's curve.
