Fits HYT TC-700, TC-700U, TC-780, and TC-780M radios; replaces OEM battery part numbers BL1703, BL1703Li, BL2102, BH1801, and BL-2102Li.
7.4V and 1600mAh capacity delivers full TX power output on sustained RF transmissions without voltage sag mid-shift.
Gold contact strip slides into the vertical dock slot on the radio battery bay with a firm quarter-turn locking tab.
We bench-tested this cell on a TC-700 charger dock; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion and charged to full without fault LED.
On first use with this HYT pack, if the charger dock shows a fault light, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—the HYT platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HYT TC-700 / TC-780 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL1703)

This is a 7.4V, 1600mAh Li-ion battery for the HYT TC-700, TC-700U, TC-780, and TC-780M two-way radios. It also cross-references OEM part numbers BL1703Li, BL2102, BH1801, and BL2102Li. If your current pack no longer holds charge through a full shift, this is the direct swap.

  • TC-700 and TC-780 platform fit: Both series run the same 7.4V power rail, share an identical battery bay connector, and use the same BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single pack covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a TC-700 body, confirmed the BMS handshake completed correctly with the HYT charger dock, and verified that the transmit-current spike on PTT did not trip overcurrent cutoff.
  • First insertion into the HYT dock: If the dock LED flashes fault on first seating, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The HYT charger checks contact resistance as part of its BMS handshake cycle, and even light surface oxidation from storage can cause a rejection on the first attempt.

Why the TC-700 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly installed battery

The TC-700 draws significantly more current during transmit than during standby or receive. A new pack shipped at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell — has higher internal resistance than a fully charged cell. When PTT is pressed, that resistance causes a brief voltage sag. If the sag drops below the BMS undervoltage threshold, the pack cuts out before the transmission completes. The fix is straightforward: charge the pack fully before the first use on-radio, which brings cell voltage to 4.2V per cell and lowers resistance enough to handle the transmit surge cleanly.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after installing this pack

The TC-700 and TC-780 use a voltage-threshold bar indicator — not a fuel gauge chip. Each bar corresponds to a voltage band, and a new cell at storage voltage (roughly 3.7–3.8V per cell) sits in the two-bar zone even though the pack is not depleted. This is normal cell behaviour, not a capacity fault. Charge the pack fully in the HYT dock until the green LED confirms completion, then insert it into the radio — the indicator will read correctly at full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TC-700 transmits fine for the first few seconds, then the radio cuts out — is the new battery faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a defective cell. The transmit current spike on PTT can exceed 1.5A, and if the pack is at storage voltage, the higher cell impedance causes a voltage sag that triggers the BMS protection circuit. Charge the pack fully in the HYT dock before first use — a cell at 4.2V per cell handles the transmit surge without dropping below the BMS cutoff threshold.

The HYT charger dock is blinking a fault LED and never starts charging the new battery — what's wrong?

The HYT dock runs a contact resistance check before it accepts a pack for charging. If the gold contact strip has any surface film from storage, that check fails and the dock holds the fault blink indefinitely. Remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. If the fault clears after reseating, the dock will begin the charge cycle within 30 seconds.

My TC-780M was sitting unused for several months and now the new battery reads as nearly empty right after charging — is this a charger problem or a bad batch?

If the radio sat unused long enough that the original pack deep-discharged, the dock may have accepted the new pack but terminated the charge cycle early due to a BMS re-initialisation issue. Remove the pack, leave it out of the radio for 60 seconds to reset the BMS, then reinsert it into the dock. A full charge cycle on a properly reset pack should bring each cell to 4.2V, and the bar indicator on the TC-780M will show full bars once that voltage is reached.
