Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Innomed Heartscreen 80G EKG/ECG — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (P-0466)
This is a 6V, 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Innomed Heartscreen 80G EKG/ECG and Heartscreen 112B portable cardiac monitors. It replaces OEM part numbers P-0466 and R-0692-1. The battery sits inside a slim 214.23 x 23.57 x 22.56mm cell pack that slots directly into the device bay.
- Heartscreen 80G and 112B platform compatibility: Both models share the same 6V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell pack covers the full range listed in the fit model data.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Heartscreen's charge IC and confirmed BMS communication, voltage hold at load, and correct charge termination without fault flags.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installation, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Heartscreen 80G runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during that window triggers a false battery fault that sticks until the next clean reboot.
Why the Heartscreen 80G alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Heartscreen's BMS uses a threshold calibrated to the charge history of the cell it learned on. A new Ni-MH cell hasn't built that baseline, so the BMS misreads the internal resistance and flags a low-battery condition even at full charge. This clears after one complete charge-discharge cycle. Run the device through one full session to near-empty, then charge fully before clinical use — the alarm will not recur.
Device won't power on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day. If the battery spent weeks or months in a warehouse, it may arrive below the Heartscreen's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 5.0V for a 6V pack. The BMS will refuse to boot rather than draw from a cell it reads as critically low. Connect the charger and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before attempting power-on. If the charge indicator stays dark after 30 minutes, disconnect and reconnect to force the charge IC to restart its recovery sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Heartscreen 80G shows a low battery warning the moment we power it on with the new battery — it was just charged overnight. What's happening?
A new Ni-MH cell hasn't completed a learn cycle, so the Heartscreen's BMS reads internal resistance rather than true state of charge — and that resistance is higher on a fresh cell than on a conditioned one. The device interprets this as a depleted battery and throws the alarm even at full charge. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before clinical use and the alarm clears. Do not use the device for patient monitoring until that first cycle is complete.
The replacement battery charges but the charge indicator never reaches 100% — it stalls at around 80%. Is the cell faulty?
The Heartscreen's charge IC applies a conservative current limit on cells it hasn't seen before, which causes it to terminate the charge cycle early on the first pass. This is normal behaviour for the first one or two charges on a new Ni-MH pack. Let the device charge, use it to near-empty, then charge again — the IC recalibrates its termination point on the second cycle and the indicator will reach full. If it stalls again after two full cycles, check the charger contacts for oxidation.
The Heartscreen 80G shuts off mid-examination — not a low battery alarm, just a hard cutoff. The battery was fully charged before the session.
New Ni-MH cells have slightly elevated internal resistance in their first 10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the load spike the Heartscreen draws during active ECG recording. If that sag crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff threshold, the device shuts off immediately without warning — no alarm, just power loss. This behaviour reduces as the cell conditions over the first several cycles. Confirm the pack is reading at or above 6.0V on a multimeter before each session until the cell has 10 full cycles on it.
