Fits JVC GS-1000 camcorder; replaces OEM battery CS-VBF2E for full power restoration.
12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH cell delivers 21.6Wh — sufficient for standard recording and playback sessions on this compact camcorder.
Connector slides into the GS-1000 battery slot with flat contact alignment; locking tab seats flush with camera body frame.
Bench tested on GS-1000 body charger — cell accepted full charge cycle without cutoff; voltage curve tracked within spec for Ni-MH chemistry.
On first insertion, let the camera body charge this cell fully before extended recording — GS-1000 fuel-gauge firmware maps Ni-MH discharge curves on initial charge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JVC GS-1000 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 12V, 1800mAh (21.6Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the JVC GS-1000 camcorder. It slots into the GS-1000 body and powers both recording and playback operations. Voltage and form factor match the original JVC cell exactly.

  • GS-1000 compatibility: The GS-1000 draws from a single 12V Ni-MH cell stack. This battery matches that voltage rail and connector footprint, so the camera's power management circuit sees no difference from the original cell.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on a GS-1000 body. The camera accepted the cell without error codes, and the BMS tracked charge state consistently across multiple cycles.
  • First charge on the GS-1000: Ni-MH cells benefit from a full charge-discharge cycle in the camera body before extended shooting. Run one complete charge through the OEM charger or camera, then discharge through normal use — this lets the BMS calibrate its state-of-charge mapping to the new cell.

Why the GS-1000 battery indicator drops suddenly during recording

Ni-MH cells have a relatively flat discharge curve through most of their capacity, then voltage drops steeply near the end. The GS-1000's indicator maps voltage thresholds to percentage steps, so it can sit at two bars for most of a shoot and then fall to empty quickly. This is normal Ni-MH behaviour — it is not a fault with the replacement cell. A full conditioning cycle after install helps the camera read remaining charge more accurately.

GS-1000 shows no battery reading on a freshly charged replacement cell

A new Ni-MH cell sometimes reads as absent or zero because the camera's BMS has no prior charge history for it. The fix is to seat the battery firmly, power off the camera completely, then perform one full charge cycle in the camera body or OEM charger before powering on for recording. After one complete charge cycle, the BMS initialises its threshold map and the indicator reads correctly. If the camera still shows no battery after a full charge, check the contacts are clean and the cell is seated at 12V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GS-1000 shows two bars for most of a shoot and then dies with no warning — is the replacement battery faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. Ni-MH chemistry holds a near-flat voltage through most of its discharge, then drops sharply at the end — the camera's indicator can't distinguish the middle 60% of charge, so it stays on two bars until the voltage cliff hits. Run one full charge-discharge cycle through the camera body to let the BMS recalibrate its threshold map to the new cell. After conditioning, the drop-off point will be more predictable.

The GS-1000 percentage display jumps from 80% to 20% and back during playback — what's causing that?

A new Ni-MH cell has a discharge curve the camera hasn't mapped yet, so the voltage-to-percentage translation misfires under changing load. Playback spins the mechanism and varies current draw, which causes the BMS to jump between thresholds it has not yet calibrated. Perform one complete charge cycle in the OEM charger, followed by a full discharge through normal use, then recharge fully. After that conditioning cycle the indicator stabilises.

The GS-1000 records noticeably less footage in cold weather on the new battery compared to indoors — is that normal?

Yes — Ni-MH cells lose effective capacity when the cell temperature drops below around 10°C, because internal resistance rises and the BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff earlier. The rated 1800mAh capacity is measured at room temperature; cold conditions reduce the usable portion of that. Keep the camera body inside a jacket or bag between takes to maintain cell temperature, and the available capacity stays closer to the rated figure.
