Fits Olympus VC-104, VC-105, VC-106, and VX-402 camcorders; replaces OEM VBF2E battery pack.
Outputs 12V at 1800mAh, delivering 21.6Wh total capacity for sustained video recording and playback cycles.
Connector slides into the battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab engages flush against camera body.
We bench tested this Ni-MH cell in a VC-104 body; voltage stayed stable under full-draw video record, no early cutoff.
On first install, charge the battery fully inside the camera body using Olympus AC power — the VC-104 firmware maps cell voltage to remaining-time display during this initial charge cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Olympus VC-104 / VX-402 Series — 12V Ni-MH 1800mAh Replacement Battery

This is a 12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Olympus VC-104, VC-105, VC-106, and VX-402 camcorder series. It slots into the same battery compartment as the original VBF2E cell and restores power for recording and playback. Capacity is 1800mAh (21.6Wh) — matching the original spec.

  • VC-104 / VC-105 / VC-106 / VX-402 compatibility: These models share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS voltage thresholds — one cell fits the entire group without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS accepted the cell without faults, held voltage steady under recording load, and reported battery status correctly through the camera's indicator.
  • First-use charge cycle on Ni-MH cells: Ni-MH chemistry benefits from a full charge via the OEM charger before first use. This lets the camera body calibrate its battery-remaining display to the new cell's discharge curve — skipping it can cause the indicator to read low or jump.

Why the VC-104 shows a dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell

The VC-104 maps its battery indicator against a voltage curve calibrated to a conditioned OEM cell. A new Ni-MH cell straight out of packaging often sits at a partial or uneven charge state, which reads below the camera's lower voltage threshold. The body interprets this as a flat battery and refuses to boot or displays a false low-battery warning. One full charge cycle through the OEM charger before installing resets this — the camera then reads voltage correctly and operates normally.

Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording on the VC-104

Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than Li-ion, and the VC-104's fuel gauge was factory-tuned to the original cell's specific curve. A replacement cell with a slightly different internal resistance profile causes the voltage-to-percentage mapping to lose accuracy at certain charge levels. You'll see the indicator jump from 60% to 20% or stall at 100% longer than expected. Charge the cell fully, run it through two complete discharge-recharge cycles in the camera, and the gauge will track more closely to the actual charge state.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VC-104 won't turn on with the new battery installed — just flashes the battery icon and shuts off. What's happening?

The camera's BMS is reading the resting voltage of an unconditioned Ni-MH cell as below the minimum threshold to boot. Remove the battery, place it in the OEM charger for a full charge cycle, then reinstall. After a complete charge, the resting voltage will sit above 12V and the camera will power on normally.

The battery percentage on my VC-104 drops from about 70% to nearly empty in seconds during playback — is the cell faulty?

Not necessarily. The VC-104's voltage-based fuel gauge loses accuracy when the cell's discharge curve doesn't precisely match the factory calibration point. This shows up most during moderate-draw tasks like playback, where voltage sags briefly. Run two full charge-discharge cycles in the camera body and the indicator will track more accurately — if it still collapses past the 11V mark under light load after that, the cell itself may need to be returned.

Why does the VC-104 record fine at room temperature but cut out early in cold weather with this replacement?

Ni-MH cells lose available capacity faster in cold conditions because internal resistance rises as temperature drops — the voltage sag under recording load then hits the camera's low-voltage cutoff sooner than it would at room temperature. This isn't unique to replacement cells, but a new cell will show it more noticeably before it's been fully conditioned. Keep the camera body close to your person between shots to hold the battery above 10°C, and run a full charge cycle before heading out.
