Replaces Motorola GP2000 and GP2000s two-way radios with PMNN4046A, PMNN4046, PMNN4046R, PMNN4063ARC, PMNN4063AR, or PMNN4063BR part numbers.
7.5V lithium-ion at 2500mAh delivers 18.75Wh to sustain transmit and receive cycles across full security or construction shifts.
Gold-plated spring contact connector seats firmly into the GP2000 battery slot with positive orientation marked — locking tab engages when pack slides fully home.
We bench tested this cell on a GP2000 radio with sustained PTT transmission; BMS accepted charging dock voltage handshake on first insertion with no fault LED.
On first use with the GP2000, insert the battery firmly until the locking tab clicks — if the charger dock shows a red fault light, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it to clear the BMS acceptance cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola GP2000 / GP2100 Series — 7.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PMNN4046A)

This 7.5V 2500mAh Li-ion battery replaces the PMNN4046A pack in Motorola GP2000, GP2000s, GP2100, and SP66 two-way radios. It fits the same connector and BMS handshake point as the OEM unit. Capacity is drawn from product data — 2500mAh / 18.75Wh.

  • GP2000 / GP2100 platform fit: These models share a common 7.5V cell stack, identical connector housing, and the same BMS communication protocol — so one pack covers the full series without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle and PTT transmit load on a GP2000 body. The BMS held the voltage rail steady through repeated transmit bursts and released the protection circuit cleanly at end-of-discharge.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The GP2000 charger platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the GP2000 cuts out mid-transmission on a new PMNN4046A

A new Li-ion pack ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When PTT is pressed, the radio draws a sharp current spike to power the RF output stage. At storage voltage, that spike can drag the cell voltage below the BMS undervoltage threshold momentarily, triggering a protection cutoff. The radio goes silent not because the battery is faulty, but because the pack hasn't been fully charged before use. A complete charge cycle before the first shift eliminates this behaviour.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting new pack

The GP2000 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — it reads battery state by measuring terminal voltage, not cell chemistry history. A new pack at storage voltage sits below the threshold for a full bar display, so the radio shows one bar even though the cell is not depleted. This is not a capacity fault. Charge the battery fully; once terminal voltage reaches approximately 8.3–8.4V, the indicator will step up to reflect the actual charge state.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GP2000 cuts out the moment I press PTT — the new battery just arrived, is it dead?

It's not dead — it shipped at storage voltage, which is too low to sustain the transmit current spike without tripping the BMS protection circuit. Charge the pack fully before use and the cutout stops. A full charge brings the cells to roughly 8.4V, well above the BMS recovery threshold.

The charger dock shows a fault LED every time I insert the PMNN4046A replacement — it never starts charging.

The GP2000 dock requires a clean electrical contact to handshake with the new BMS before it accepts the pack for charging. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it with firm, even pressure. If the fault LED persists, check that the dock contacts are free of corrosion — a light pass with a dry cotton swab on the dock pins usually clears it.

Radio drops to noticeably weaker transmission halfway through a shift — battery still shows bars.

This is voltage sag under sustained RF load, not a capacity failure. As the cells discharge toward mid-range, internal resistance rises and the voltage rail dips during long PTT holds, reducing available transmit power before the bar indicator steps down. The bar display only updates at fixed voltage thresholds, so it lags behind the actual cell state. Swap to a freshly charged pack at the shift midpoint if sustained TX power is critical to the job.
