Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RCA CC-8251 / Pro 598 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BB-65L)

This is a 7.4V, 2900mAh Li-ion replacement for the RCA BB-65L battery. It fits the CC-8251, CC8251, Pro 598, Pro 698H, and related RCA camcorder models. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original spec exactly.

  • CC-8251 and Pro-series compatibility: These RCA camcorder models share the same battery bay dimensions, 7.4V voltage rail, and connector pinout. The BB-65L form factor fits all of them without modification — the BMS in each body reads the same charge state signals from the cell pack.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a CC-8251 body. The BMS accepted the cell, reported charge state correctly, and the protection circuit tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
  • First-cycle initialisation on RCA camcorder bodies: On first install, charge the battery fully inside the camcorder body using the OEM charger or in-body charging port before recording. Some RCA BMS firmware needs one complete in-body charge cycle to map the new cell's discharge curve and display remaining charge accurately.

Battery indicator freezing or dropping suddenly on the CC-8251 display

RCA camcorder bodies use voltage-threshold mapping to estimate remaining charge. A new third-party cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the original, so the body's indicator can lag or jump — especially in the upper and lower 20% of charge. This is a calibration issue, not a cell fault. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles through the camcorder body and the indicator will track more accurately against the new cell's actual curve.

Camcorder cutting power mid-recording on a visually full charge

This usually means the BMS protection circuit is tripping on a voltage sag during high-draw moments — autofocus motor actuation, optical image stabilisation, and the recording sensor running together create brief current spikes. If the cell voltage dips below the BMS cutoff threshold during one of those spikes, the body shuts down even if average charge looks healthy. Check that the battery contacts on both the cell and the bay are clean and making full contact. If the issue persists after cleaning, confirm the cell is reading at or above 7.2V resting voltage before recording.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RCA CC-8251 shows a battery error icon when I insert this replacement — is the cell dead?

It is not dead. RCA camcorder bodies run a BMS authentication check on first install and sometimes reject an unrecognised cell before it has been charged in the body. Insert the battery and run a full charge cycle through the camcorder body or OEM charger first. After one complete charge, power the camera on again — the error clears in most cases once the body has mapped the cell's initial voltage profile.

The battery percentage on my RCA camcorder jumps from 60% straight to 10% with no warning — what's happening?

The camcorder's charge indicator is mapped to voltage thresholds calibrated for the original BB-65L cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell discharges at a slightly different rate, so the percentage display can skip thresholds rather than step down evenly. This is a display mapping mismatch, not a capacity fault. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the camcorder body and the indicator will recalibrate to the new cell's actual curve.

My RCA Pro 698H records fine indoors but the battery drains noticeably faster in cold weather — is the cell faulty?

The cell is behaving normally. Li-ion cells lose available capacity in cold temperatures because ion mobility inside the electrolyte slows down, which reduces the voltage the cell can sustain under load. On the RCA Pro 698H, the combined draw of the sensor, LCD, and stabilisation system is enough to hit the BMS low-voltage cutoff sooner when the cell is cold. Keep the battery in an inside pocket until just before shooting — bringing the cell up to room temperature before use recovers most of the available capacity.
