Fits Sony CCD-TRV108, CCD-TRV118, CCD-TRV128, CCD-TRV138 and replaces NP-QM71, NP-QM70, NP-FM70, NP-FM71 battery packs.
Delivers 7.4V at 3200mAh — enough capacity for the full MiniDV recording session on these compact camcorders.
Connector slides into the battery slot on the camera body; locking tab seats flush and holds under spring tension.
We bench-tested this cell in a CCD-TRV118 and the BMS accepted the new pack after one full charge cycle through the camera body.
On first install, charge this cell fully inside the camera body or Sony charger before extended recording — the camcorder firmware needs one cycle to map the new discharge curve for accurate battery-remaining display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony CCD-TRV108 / CCD-TRV Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NP-QM71)

This 7.4V, 3200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the NP-QM71, NP-QM70, NP-FM70, and NP-FM71 packs used across Sony's MiniDV camcorder range. It fits the CCD-TRV108, CCD-TRV118, CCD-TRV128, CCD-TRV138, and over 60 additional Sony camcorder models that share the same battery bay and connector. Capacity is 3200mAh (23.68Wh) — identical to the original specification.

  • CCD-TRV series compatibility: These models share the same physical battery bay, 7.4V nominal rail, and InfoLITHIUM BMS handshake. The connector pinout is identical across the NP-FM and NP-QM families, which is why one cell covers both series without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery on a CCD-TRV108 body and monitored the InfoLITHIUM communication protocol. The BMS initialised correctly, the battery-remaining display updated in real time, and charge acceptance through a Sony AC-L series charger completed without fault flags.
  • First charge cycle on Sony InfoLITHIUM bodies: Run one full charge cycle inside the camcorder body or an OEM Sony charger before heavy use. Sony's InfoLITHIUM system calibrates the remaining-time display during this first cycle — skipping it can cause the indicator to read inaccurately for several sessions.

Why the CCD-TRV series rejects a new NP-FM / NP-QM cell on first install

Sony's InfoLITHIUM protocol requires the battery to present a valid data signal on the communication pin before the camera body will draw current. A new cell that has partially self-discharged during storage can present a voltage just below the BMS acceptance threshold. The fix is straightforward: seat the battery and place the camcorder on charge for at least 15 minutes before attempting to power on. This brings the cell voltage above the acceptance floor and allows the handshake to complete.

Battery percentage jumping or freezing on the CCD-TRV display

The InfoLITHIUM remaining-time display maps the cell's discharge curve to a time estimate, not a simple voltage percentage. A replacement cell with a slightly different discharge curve will cause the display to jump or stall until the BMS recalibrates. Run one full discharge — record until the camera shuts down — then charge to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, the display will track the new cell's curve accurately and the jumping stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CCD-TRV108 shows "---" on the battery display instead of a time reading after fitting this battery — is it faulty?

The InfoLITHIUM system shows "---" when it hasn't mapped the new cell's discharge curve yet. This clears after one full charge-to-discharge cycle run entirely in the camera body. Record continuously until the camera shuts itself off, then charge to 100% without removing the battery. After that single cycle the display will show a normal time reading.

The battery percentage on my Sony camcorder drops sharply from around 30% then the camera cuts off — what's happening?

This is a voltage-sag cutoff. At lower states of charge, cell voltage drops faster under the combined draw of the CCD sensor, LCD, and tape mechanism. The BMS interprets the sag as a depleted cell and triggers shutdown before the display reaches zero. Charge the battery fully and avoid running the LCD at maximum brightness while recording — that reduces peak draw enough to smooth the discharge curve near the lower threshold, typically around 6.0V.

The replacement cell charges fine but the camcorder gets noticeably warm during extended recording sessions — is that a battery problem?

The heat comes from the camcorder body, not the battery. The CCD-TRV108 draws current simultaneously for the CCD sensor, tape transport motor, and LCD backlight during recording — that combined load generates heat in the body chassis. The battery will be slightly warm to the touch after a long session, which is normal for a 7.4V Li-ion cell under sustained draw. If the battery itself is too hot to hold, stop immediately and check that the battery bay contacts are clean and making full contact.
