Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Audiofox AT22R — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery for the Audiofox AT22R baby monitor parent unit. It replaces the original pack that powers the handheld receiver, letting you monitor your baby without keeping the unit permanently plugged in. Fit the battery, charge it fully, and the parent unit is ready to use untethered again.

  • AT22R parent unit fit: The AT22R parent unit uses a compact 4.8V Ni-MH cell pack to match the receiver's radio and audio circuitry voltage rail. This battery meets that spec exactly — same cell count, same connector footprint at 57.71 x 50.79 x 14.58mm.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the AT22R platform. The battery accepted a full charge without thermal event and held voltage within the range required for stable audio and radio operation.
  • Re-pair the units after fitting: Completely removing the old battery interrupts the AT22R parent unit's stored link with the nursery transmitter. Once the new battery is in and charged, run the pairing sequence from the parent unit menu before expecting audio from the nursery unit.

Parent unit battery draining overnight on the AT22R

Running the AT22R parent unit all night with the screen active puts sustained current draw on the 2000mAh pack. The display backlight and radio receiver together pull more current than the battery was sized to carry indefinitely. Enable the screen timeout in the parent unit settings — the audio alert stays live while the screen sleeps. This alone significantly reduces overnight drain without losing any monitoring function.

Range noticeably shorter after fitting a new battery

The AT22R's radio transmitter draws from the battery voltage directly, and Ni-MH cells fresh off a first charge don't always reach their rated voltage immediately. A low starting voltage means the radio module runs below its intended power level, which cuts usable range. Charge the new battery for a full uninterrupted cycle — typically to 4.8V measured at the pack terminals — before judging the range. Most range complaints after a swap resolve after the first or second full charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AT22R parent unit shows full signal but I can't hear anything from the nursery unit after swapping the battery — what happened?

Removing the battery completely clears the wireless link stored in the parent unit's memory. The nursery unit and parent unit need to re-establish their connection from scratch. Go into the parent unit's menu and run the pairing sequence with both units powered on and within one metre of each other. Once paired, the audio channel re-opens and normal monitoring resumes.

The night vision on the AT22R camera stopped working right after I put in a new battery — is the battery the problem?

The IR LEDs that power night vision on the AT22R draw a sharp burst of current and need the parent unit at a stable operating voltage to trigger correctly. A new Ni-MH battery that hasn't completed its first full charge cycle may sit slightly below the voltage threshold the night vision circuit expects. Charge the battery fully before testing night vision — allow the full charge cycle to complete without interruption. If night vision still fails after a full charge, the issue is in the camera unit, not the battery.

The AT22R parent unit battery was holding a charge fine, but now it loses most of its charge just sitting on the nightstand unused — what causes that?

Ni-MH cells degrade faster when repeatedly charged and then left sitting for long periods without being used — this is shallow-cycle degradation. The cells develop reduced capacity through partial discharge and long idle periods at high state of charge. Run the parent unit on battery until the low-battery indicator appears, then charge it fully — repeat this two or three times to help condition the cells back toward rated capacity. If the pack is genuinely old, replacement is the more direct fix.
