Fits Panasonic Handheld ZE-79UNCY barcode scanner, replaces OEM part ZE-79XAYE.
3.6V, 650mAh Ni-MH delivers sufficient current for scan trigger and wireless radio without dropout.
Connector seats flat into scanner battery bay with single-tab locking mechanism; polarization prevents reverse insertion.
We bench-tested the cell on rapid fire scan cycles and confirmed BMS accepts the trigger inrush without false cutoff events.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before field use — the scan trigger inrush peaks hardest when the cell approaches minimum and pre-charging prevents false BMS trips during first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic Handheld ZE-79UNCY — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (ZE-79XAYE)

This is a 3.6V, 650mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Panasonic Handheld ZE-79UNCY, ZE-79XAYE, and ZE-79 barcode scanners. It uses OEM part number ZE-79XAYE and fits the compact housing directly. The battery restores scanning function in retail, warehouse, and inventory environments where the original cell has degraded.

  • ZE-79 series fit: The ZE-79UNCY, ZE-79XAYE, and ZE-79 all share the same 3.6V Ni-MH cell format, connector orientation, and BMS handshake — one pack covers the entire line without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger bursts and wireless polling events. The BMS held stable across the draw spikes without nuisance cutoff under normal shift conditions.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before using it on the floor. Scan-trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first pick-and-pack shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

Ni-MH cells arrive in a partially discharged state. Some ZE-79 cradles interpret the low initial voltage as a fault and flag a charging error rather than starting a charge cycle. Wipe the pack contacts and cradle contacts with a dry cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. Most cradles clear the error and begin charging once contact resistance drops below the dock's threshold.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The ZE-79 draws simultaneously from the wireless radio and the scan trigger during fast barcode runs. On a degraded or low cell, that combined inrush pulls voltage below the radio module's minimum, dropping the wireless link mid-shift. This is a cell capacity issue, not a radio fault. A freshly charged 650mAh pack keeps the voltage rail above 3.2V through the burst, holding the connection stable.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ZE-79UNCY scanner stops reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — is it faulty?

Not faulty — the laser or imager draws more current at minimum charge than the depleted pack can sustain, cutting power below the read threshold. Place the scanner in the cradle immediately after fitting the new battery and run a complete charge cycle before triggering any scans. Once the cell is at full charge, the imager power stabilises and reads return to normal. If it still fails to read after a full charge, clean the scan window before assuming a hardware fault.

The scanner feels warm after a long shift — is that a sign the battery is failing?

Warmth during extended shifts is normal on the ZE-79 series because the scanner's compact housing traps heat from combined wireless polling and continuous scan-trigger use. A failing cell runs noticeably hotter than a healthy one under the same load. If the housing is too hot to hold comfortably, let the scanner cool and check whether the cradle shows a charge fault — that points to internal cell resistance climbing above spec. A replacement pack running at the correct 650mAh capacity stays within normal temperature range through a standard shift.

The new battery charges for a while, then the cradle light goes solid green almost immediately — am I getting a full charge?

Ni-MH cradles use a delta-V cutoff — they stop charging when voltage peaks and drops by a set amount. On a brand-new cell, that peak can arrive quickly on the first cycle, giving a misleadingly short charge time. Run one full discharge-and-recharge cycle by using the scanner until the low-battery indicator appears, then charge to green without interruption. After that conditioning cycle, the cradle accurately reads the pack and the green light reflects a genuine full charge.
