Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol PDT8000 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (21-54882-01)
This 7.4V, 1200mAh Li-ion cell replaces OEM part 21-54882-01 in the Symbol PDT8000 family of handheld barcode scanners. It fits the PDT8000, PDT8037, PDT8046, PDT8056, and additional models in that series. Same voltage, same connector, same BMS handshake as the original pack.
- PDT8000 series compatibility: These models share a common 7.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. Swapping between PDT8037, PDT8046, and PDT8056 units is straightforward — the dock and the device read the pack the same way across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on PDT8000 hardware. The BMS negotiated correctly with the scanner's power management controller — no false low-battery warnings and no mid-shift cutoffs during sustained scan-and-transmit sequences.
- First-shift prep for pick-and-pack: Before the first use, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle. Scan trigger inrush current spikes highest when the cell is near minimum charge. A fully charged cell on the first shift prevents the BMS from tripping on that initial surge.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
New packs sometimes trigger a charging fault on first dock, even though the battery itself is fine. The most common cause is contact resistance between the pack terminals and the cradle's charge pins — oxide or residue on either surface breaks the low-level BMS handshake the dock requires before it begins the charge cycle. Wipe the battery contacts and cradle pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until you hear it click. If the error clears, the contact surface was the problem, not the pack or the dock.
Scanner losing wireless connection during a rapid scan burst
During a fast scan sequence, the PDT8000 draws from the imager or laser, the processor, and the radio simultaneously. That combined inrush can pull the cell voltage down briefly, and if the BMS sees the dip as an undervoltage event, it will drop the wireless link to protect the cell. This is more likely when the pack is partially discharged. Running the battery above 50% during high-frequency scan shifts — measured by checking the scanner's battery indicator before a heavy pick run — keeps the voltage headroom above the BMS cutoff threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PDT8000 scanner isn't reading barcodes after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The laser or imager needs a minimum voltage threshold to fire reliably, and a new pack shipped in storage may not hold enough charge to meet it. Seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before attempting scans. Once fully charged, the imager receives the correct drive voltage and the read failures stop. Check the battery indicator on the scanner display — if it shows less than two bars, the pack isn't ready for work yet.
The PDT8000 runs a noticeably shorter shift than the old battery did — why?
Shallow cycling is the most common cause in warehouse environments. If scanners are topped up on the cradle every break rather than running down to a lower state of charge, the cells lose usable capacity through repeated partial cycles over weeks. With a new pack, let the battery discharge further into each shift before recharging — aim to dock the scanner when the indicator shows one bar rather than pulling it off the cradle at every opportunity. This conditions the new cells and preserves full cycle capacity.
The scanner gets noticeably warm during a long pick shift — is that the battery or the device?
Sustained simultaneous draw from the scan trigger and the wireless radio generates heat inside the PDT8000's enclosed housing, and the battery pack itself contributes as it discharges under load. Some warmth is normal. If the housing becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the scanner's wireless polling interval isn't set to its most aggressive rate — reducing the radio duty cycle lowers the combined draw and brings operating temperature back into the normal range.
