Fits Symbol PTC-730, PTC-860, and PTC-860-II handheld scanners; replaces OEM part 419-526-1570 and equivalent cross-references.
4.8V, 2500mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers sustained power for barcode capture and wireless data transmission on retail and warehouse floor.
Connector seats into the battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab clips down to secure the pack in the cradle.
We bench-tested the cell in a PTC-730 dock — BMS accepted the pack on first insertion, charge voltage ramped steady, no fault codes.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack operations to prevent scan trigger inrush cutoff.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol PTC-730 / PTC-860 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (419-526-1570)

This is a 4.8V, 2500mAh Ni-MH battery for the Symbol PTC-730, PTC-860, PTC-860-II, and PTC-860DS handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers including 419-526-1570, 14861-000, and TX86C1-M. Use it in retail, warehouse, and logistics terminals where the original pack no longer holds a charge through a full shift.

  • PTC-730 and PTC-860 series compatibility: These models share the same 4.8V cell configuration, connector pinout, and charge-management circuit. One pack covers the full range listed above — no adapter or firmware change required.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the PTC-730 platform. The charge circuit accepted the pack cleanly, and the BMS held stable voltage across repeated scan-trigger bursts without tripping low-voltage cutoff.
  • First-shift cradle protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before pulling it for pick-and-pack. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents a false BMS trip on the first high-frequency scan burst of the shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

Ni-MH packs shipped in storage state sit at a lower resting voltage than the cradle expects on first contact. Some PTC docks interpret this as a fault and flag an error rather than beginning a charge cycle. Wipe the battery contact pads and cradle contacts with a dry cloth to clear any oxidation or residue affecting resistance. Re-seat the pack firmly and leave it undisturbed — the dock should begin charging within 60 seconds once contact resistance drops below threshold.

Scanner loses wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

On the PTC-860 and 860DS, the radio transmitter and scan trigger fire simultaneously during fast barcode sequences. The combined inrush draw can pull cell voltage below the radio module's minimum operating threshold, dropping the wireless link mid-session. This happens most often when the pack is below 30% charge — the internal resistance of a partially depleted Ni-MH cell rises sharply under combined load. Keep the pack above 3.84V under load to maintain stable radio operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The scanner reads barcodes fine on the bench but misses scans on the warehouse floor — why?

The laser or imager draw spikes when the device is in continuous scan mode under ambient light stress, pulling more current than intermittent bench use. If the pack was installed without a full charge cycle, the cell voltage may be sitting just above BMS cutoff — enough for idle operation but not for sustained scan-trigger demand. Seat the scanner in its cradle and run a complete charge cycle before deploying it on the floor. Once fully charged, the scan trigger will have the headroom it needs through a full shift.

The PTC-730 runs noticeably warm after two or three hours of scanning — is that a battery issue?

Sustained scan-trigger draw combined with wireless polling generates continuous current through the pack in an enclosed plastic housing with no active cooling. Ni-MH chemistry also produces more heat than Li-ion during charge acceptance and under sustained discharge. This is normal operating behaviour, not a fault — the pack should be warm but not hot to the touch. If the housing is too hot to hold comfortably, check that the scan burst rate isn't set above the device's recommended duty cycle.

The new battery drains faster than expected compared to the old one — what's actually happening?

A new Ni-MH pack needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity — 2500mAh is the figure after conditioning, not out of the box. Shallow cycling, where the pack is topped up before it fully discharges, slows that conditioning and keeps usable capacity artificially low. Run the scanner until the low-battery indicator triggers, then return it to the cradle for a full uninterrupted charge. Repeat this for the first few shifts and capacity will stabilise at the rated 2500mAh.
