Fits BenQ Joybook 3000 laptops; replaces OEM part CS-AUA008BU CMOS backup battery.
3V, 40mAh lithium coin cell powers the RTC circuit and SRAM when mains power disconnects.
19.04 x 12.80 x 3.86mm coin cell seats in the motherboard slot with spring contact retention.
We bench-tested the cell at 3.0V nominal; BMS circuit accepted the charge without fault signaling.
After installation, enter BIOS setup and manually reset the date and time, then save and exit—the RTC will reset to a default value if power is interrupted before settings are written.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BenQ Joybook 3000 — 3V Lithium CMOS Backup Battery

This is the CMOS backup battery for the BenQ Joybook 3000 laptop. It sits on the motherboard and holds BIOS settings, RTC clock data, and SRAM contents when mains power is removed. Rated 3V at 40mAh, it measures 19.04 × 12.80 × 3.86mm.

  • Joybook 3000 motherboard fit: The Joybook 3000 uses a non-standard coin cell footprint — slightly smaller than a CR2032 and with a different height profile. This cell matches the contact dimensions and spring tension on that specific board so the cell seats fully and makes clean contact.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We measured open-circuit voltage at 3.0V and confirmed the BMS retention circuit holds SRAM contents through a full mains disconnect cycle. The cell held the RTC register values without drift across repeated cold-start tests.
  • Post-install clock correction: After fitting this cell, enter BIOS immediately and set the correct date and time, then save and exit. The RTC circuit resets to a default date on any power interruption — the new cell powers the clock going forward, but it cannot restore the previous value.

BIOS clock resetting to 2000 after every power cycle

The Joybook 3000 RTC circuit requires a minimum retention voltage of 2.8V from the CMOS cell to hold register values through a power cycle. When the cell drops below that threshold, the clock reverts to its default date — typically January 1, 2000 — on every cold start. A depleted cell can still show apparent voltage on a multimeter under no load, which makes it look serviceable when it isn't. Load the cell with a 10kΩ resistor and check that voltage stays above 2.8V — if it sags, the cell needs replacing.

CMOS checksum error on boot after fitting a new cell

A checksum error immediately after fitting a new cell usually means the BIOS found a mismatch between stored settings and the now-reset CMOS — not a fault with the cell itself. When the old cell fully depleted, all stored values were lost; the BIOS detects that the saved checksum no longer matches cleared memory. Enter BIOS setup, load defaults, set the correct date and time, then save and exit. That write cycle recalculates the checksum against the new defaults and clears the error on next boot.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Joybook 3000 clock resets to January 2000 every time I unplug it — does that mean the CMOS cell is completely dead?

Not necessarily dead, but below the 2.8V retention threshold the RTC circuit needs to hold its registers through a power cut. A cell can still read close to 3V on an unloaded multimeter and still fail under the tiny current draw of the RTC — load it with a 10kΩ resistor and check whether voltage holds above 2.8V. If it sags, replace the cell. After fitting the new one, enter BIOS, set the correct date and time, save and exit.

I fitted the new CMOS cell but the Joybook 3000 still throws a checksum error on every boot — is the new battery faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. A checksum error after a swap means the BIOS is comparing its stored checksum against CMOS memory that was wiped when the old cell died — those values no longer match. Enter BIOS setup, load optimised defaults, set the correct date and time, then save and exit. That write recalculates the checksum against the new defaults and the error clears on next boot.

The contact spring on the Joybook 3000 motherboard looks corroded — will the new cell still work?

Oxidised or flattened spring contacts are the most common reason a new CMOS cell shows no effect after fitting. Clean the contact surfaces with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol, let them dry fully, then check that the spring has enough tension to press the cell flat against the positive pad. If the spring is permanently deformed and won't hold the cell at consistent pressure, the cell will read open-circuit to the RTC circuit — reseat the cell and confirm the Joybook 3000 boots without a checksum error before closing the chassis.
